Dallas Stars Dethroned, Only 1 Handicapper Predicts the Loss

What a week in the NHL! The Calgary Flames took a few losses since last week, and so did the Dallas Stars.

There are some new faces in our top 5 NHL handicapper list this week, and it’s refreshing to see a switch up so early in the season. Let’s take a look at some of the biggest wins (and upsetting losses) from the previous week of the NHL.

Bill Blatt Beats Out Other Cappers

This past week in the NHL betting scene, we saw Bill Blatt rise to the top with the most profit out of the other NHL cappers.

Blatt went 5-1 and brought home $393. He had a pretty good spread of wagers, with three moneylines, two totals, and one spread. Unfortunately, I don’t think we can lean on Blatt for his spread wagers, as that’s the one he lost.

I want to highlight the game between the Stars and Captials on 10/17. The Stars were favored going into that game, running on a 4-game winning streak since the open of the season.

Many of our other handicappers backed the Stars on the moneyline, and as you can see, they all lost:

Blatt was the only one who wagered the Capitals, and it paid off for him. I’m not sure if his insight was partly because he knew the Stars were due for a loss, or if he took a risk after looking at consensus data. Using our historic consensus data at ScoresandStats.com, I pulled up a sample of the betting pool for that game:

There was a lot of sharp money on the Dallas moneyline, and an overwhelming amount of public money, too. Blatt went out on a limb with this wager, and I’m hoping to see more risky wins from him in the coming weeks.

NHL Handicappers At the Top of Their Game Last Week

We didn’t see nearly as many wagers on the NHL this week as we did in previous weeks, but there was still some exciting action.

Our top five bettors combined went 23-6, with a combined win rate of 79.3%. They won $1,698 off their NHL wagers, which is nothing to balk at.

Sas Insider was knocked off their pedestal since last week, but not by much. Their win rate decreased by 7%, but they still made it to the top 5, which is more than we can say of some other folks.

New to this list, we see Amedeus Mastrangelo, who clocks in at a 100% win rate. He only placed 3 wagers on the NHL last week, but they all hit. He won three moneyline wagers – one favorite and two underdogs. While impressive, it’s not much to write home about. We’ll watch to see if Mastrangelo can keep up a streak in the following weeks.

The Dogs Betray Deluca

Last week we saw Mario Deluca at the top of his game, going 6-1, winning $578 from his NHL wagers.

This week, however, Deluca is 3-2, only up $100. Last week, his dogs picks were what carried him to greatness, but we see his downfall this week. His underdog moneyline on the Penguins against the Hurricanes failed, as did his spread for the Maple Leafs.

Hopefully, we get to see Deluca get back on his feet in the coming weeks, but he’ll have to start betting smarter if he wants to remain competitive.

Looking To The Upcoming Week

It’s no surprise that the Florida Panthers are at the top of the Atlantic Conference, despite being 4-4. They’re due to face off against the NY Rangers tonight at 7pm, and the Rangers are rated as favorites in that game. The Rangers, who are 5-1, are at the top of the Metropolitan Conference, and are on a hot streak, beating the Red Wings, Maple Leafs, and Canadiens last week.

Will they go the way of the Stars? Will Blatt pull out a wild underdog pick that surprises us all?
