The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics are nigh upon us. The Opening Ceremony is set for July 26th, while the women’s beach volleyball competition will begin a day later. This year’s tournament promises to be one of the most thrilling yet, with 24 world-class teams battling it out for the ultimate prize: an Olympic gold medal.

Beach volleyball has always been a sport of finesse and power, where any serve, spike, or block can turn the tide of the game. In this blog, I’ll dive into the Olympic betting odds for a few of the frontrunners and pick the team I believe is the best combination of value and upside to take home the top prize.

Women’s Beach Volleyball Gold Medal Odds

Bobner/Verge-Depre (Switzerland) +5000Alvarez Mendoza/Moreno Mateeva (Spain) +5000

Ramos/Duda (Brazil) +150

Ana Patrícia Ramos and Eduarda ‘Duda’ Lisboa are a powerhouse duo from Brazil. They have not won an Olympic medal together, but they have been dominant on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. Duda won the World Championship gold medal in 2018 with her previous partner Agatha Bednarczuk. Ana Patrícia and Duda have a long history, as they won gold together playing in the Youth Olympic Games back in 2014.

Both players competed in beach volleyball at the Tokyo 2020 Games, but with different partners. Ramos advanced to the quarterfinals alongside Rebecca Cavalcante, while Duda was eliminated in the round of 16 playing with Ágatha Bednarczuk.

As favorites with a +150 betting line, their combined skill set – Ana Patrícia’s blocking prowess and Duda’s offensive versatility – makes them leading contenders for the gold medal in Paris. Their experience and synergy on the court will be crucial in high-stakes matches.

Nuss/Kloth (United States) +300

Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth have rapidly risen in the beach volleyball ranks. While they are relatively new to the international scene and have not yet won an Olympic medal, they have made a significant impact on the AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) circuit, as well. They totaled five titles between the domestic AVP and international FIVB competitions in 2023.

These players complement each other well and both bring unique qualities to the table. It’s striking to see the 26-year-olds playing next to one another given their starkly different sizes. Kloth is an imposing presence with her tall 6’4″ frame, while Nuss – at 5’6″ – is the shortest American Olympic volleyball player since Barbra Fontana (1996).

These two played collegiately together at LSU and went an incredible 36-0 during the 2020 season. They turned pro the next year. They train in Baton Rouge, which makes them the first-ever American Olympic duo to train anywhere other than California. The U.S. has an incredibly decorated history in this event, with at least one men’s or women’s beach volleyball medal since the sport made its Olympic debut in Atlanta in 1996. Alix Klineman and April Ross – who teamed up to win the gold in Tokyo – will not participate this year.

Nuss/Kloth’s +300 line reflects their potential to upset the top-seeded Brazilian side to win gold. Nuss’s defensive skills and Kloth’s offensive power create a well-rounded team.

Hughes/Cheng (United States) +350

Sara Hughes and Kelly Cheng (formerly known as Kelly Claes) are an experienced duo from the USA. They have not won an Olympic medal, but they have a decorated history in collegiate beach volleyball and have won several AVP and FIVB World Tour titles. They have also been part of the U.S. national team for years, bringing extensive experience to the table.

This duo won gold at last year’s world championships, so you can argue they’re a little undervalued at the +350 odds. Hughes and Cheng toppled Nuss and Kloth in a hard-fought semifinal clash en route to the gold. This is the No. 3 team in the world rankings entering Olympic competition.

While Nuss and Kloth have a history dating back to their college days, the same can be said of Hughes and Cheng, who teamed up to form an impressive partnership at the University of Southern California. In 3 years playing for the Trojans, these two went an amazing 147-4 on the beach.

With a +350 betting line, Hughes and Cheng are viable contenders for the gold. They have the experience and the drive to compete at the highest level.

Stam/Schoon (Netherlands) +900

Katja Stam and Raïsa Schoon are an emerging younger team from the Netherlands. They’re another team in search of their first Olympic medal, but they’ve fared well in recent performances in FIVB World Tour events, winning a few medals and consistently finishing in the top ranks.

This tandem took the silver in 2021 at the CEV EuroBeachVolley championships before taking home the bronze in the same event the year after that in Munich. They stumbled to a 9th-place finish at last year’s competition, however, and they’ll hope to return to promin3ence on the Olympic stage. Shortly following the games, Stam and Schoon will again team up when the Netherlands hosts CEV EuroBeachVolley 2024 in early August.

Their +900 gold medal odds indicate they are underdogs, but their stingy defense can cause upsets. Stam and Schoon’s growth trajectory suggests they are capable of surprising their higher-ranked opponents and potentially making a deep run in the tournament.

Huberli/Brunner (Switzerland) +1000

Swiss players Tanja Huberli and Nina Brunner (formerly known as Nina Betschart) have been a consistent team on the international circuit. Earlier this year, they claimed their first Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour gold medal after beating Stam and Schoon in a tiebreaker in the final.

This Swiss group – ranked No. 9 in the world – won the European championship last year. They’ve also earned a pair of silver and a pair of bronze medals on the Tour in recent seasons.

At +1000 to win gold, Huberli and Brunner aren’t favorites to land on the podium. They have had quite a bit of success together of late, however, so perhaps they’re going a bit overlooked by oddsmakers.

Humana-Paredes/Wilkerson (Canada) +1100

Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson from Canada are a well-known team. Humana-Paredes – alongside her previous partner Sarah Pavan – won the gold medal at the 2019 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. Although Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson haven’t won an Olympic medal together, they have significant international experience and several World Tour titles.

In their first season on the Beach Pro Tour together, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson failed to finish worse than 5th place across 10 events. That includes three medals, including a gold at the Montreal Elite16 and a silver at the Pan American Games. They rose all the way up to No. 5 in the world rankings, too.

Their +1100 betting line suggests it’ll be a surprise for the Canadian team to win gold. However, their recent success and complementary playing styles make them dangerous. Humana-Paredes’ defensive skills and Wilkerson’s attacking capabilities could see them through to an unexpected medal finish.

Olympics Women’s Beach Volleyball Predictions: Who Wins Gold?

The women’s beach volleyball tournament at the 2024 Paris Olympics promises thrilling matches and fierce competition. While Brazil’s Ramos and Duda lead the pack with a strong history and current form, the USA’s Nuss/Kloth and Hughes/Cheng are close contenders with a mix of experience and talent.

Meanwhile, Stam/Schoon, Huberli/Brunner, and Humana-Paredes/Wilkerson are all poised to make potential runs if luck is on their side.

I love the value on the Hughes/Cheng American combo to nab the gold medal at +350. Following a dominant run together at USC, I have faith that they can see that success translate to the Olympic stage. This group is a stellar combination of value and upside, which makes them well worth a wager at those +350 gold medal odds.

Best Bet: Hughes/Cheng (+350)
