I know most people are thinking more about the Super Bowl halftime show before the coin toss goes down, but if you play your cards right, you could be watching Kendrick Lamar sing while counting the dollars you earned.
Before that happens, though, you need to consider that there is more than one way to bet on this Super Bowl market. Sure, there’s the actual coin toss result – much like any other football game – but you should also be hunting down alternative Super Bowl coin toss wagers.

Super Bowl Coin Toss Result
- Heads (-101)
- Tails (-101)
They say the Super Bowl coin toss can go either way. When you hear someone say you have a 50% chance of winning, it can be difficult to understand what that means, too.
On one hand, the outcome is almost exactly that split. There have been 58 Super Bowl games played coming into this season, and of those games, 30 coin tosses have come up tails (52%).
That’s more than 50%, but these things tend to even out over time. If you keep going, over the long run, heads will catch up with tails, there will be a tie, and then one of them will naturally pull back ahead and we could go on with this forever.
Heads is trailing in this never-ending cycle, popping up 28 times (48% of the time), and it’s currently gaining ground with three consecutive wins. It also holds the longest coin toss winning streak (5).
Does any of this mean anything? Possibly not. While heads may be heating up when it comes to the long game, it’s hard to expect it to show up for a fourth game in a row. You can truly go either way with this one, but I tend to think tails may be the top pick here.
Tails never fails, after all.
Bet: Tails (-101)
Which Team Will Win The Coin Toss?
- Kansas City Chiefs (-105)
- Philadelphia Eagles (-105)
The visiting team in Super Bowl 59 will be the Kansas City Chiefs, which means they will get the right to call the coin toss. They better hope they call it correctly, as the Kansas City Chiefs have won the toss and the game in each of the last two seasons.
KC is also chasing history, trying to become the first team to ever win three straight Super Bowls. Naturally, if they get the coin toss and happen to win the game, Patrick Mahomes would have a pretty clear path to another Super Bowl MVP trophy.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The Chiefs have a shot at winning the coin toss, and as the visiting team, their fate is entirely in their hands. Well, sort of. They have to guess the right toss and the referee tossing the coin has to play a hand in meeting their expectation.
This is all pretty random when you think about it, but the Chiefs have won three coin tosses in the Super Bowl, which is good for the fourth most all-time. If they can get a fourth, that would push them into a tie for third place.
More importantly, winning the coin toss could allow them to get off to a fast start en route to an unprecedented three-peat. It’s definitely worth noting that just 27 teams have both won the coin toss and won the game, but as is the case with most things concerning the coin toss, that’s nearly a 50% rate.
Regardless, KC has a shot at controlling their destiny here, and I won’t be the one to bet against them now.
Bet: Kansas City Chiefs (-105)
Will Coin Toss Be Called Correctly?
- Yes (-110)
- No (-110)
If you believe the Chiefs are going to call the coin toss correctly, you can make money on that as well. This bet is virtually the same as the previous Super Bowl coin toss wager I analyzed.
If you feel KC will finally lose the coin toss, you can hammer the Eagles and No sides of these bets. If you like Kansas City to get off to a hot start, you can bet on the Chiefs to win the coin toss and for the toss to be called correctly.
For reasons already explained, I expect Kansas City to call the Super Bowl coin toss correctly. They seem to have luck at their side every step of the way, and if you think the league or referees favor them in any way, why would they stop here?
All kidding aside, the Chiefs get to call the toss and they’ve won the last two. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if they did it yet again ahead of Super Bowl 59.
Bet: Yes (-110)
