Kenshiro Teraji Recent Fights
Since suffering the lone loss of his career, a 10th round TKO against Masamichi Yabuki in September 2021, Kenshiro Teraji has won six bouts in a row. One of those fights was a rematch against Yabuki where he won via 3rd round KO and won the WBC light flyweight title.
Following that win, Teraji would battle Hiroto Kyoguchi in November 2022. He entered this bout as the underdog but ended up winning via 7thr round TKO. Additionally, he was ahead on all three scorecards at this point. In fact, he basically won every round on all three cards.
His next bout came in April 2023, where he beat Anthony Olascuaga via 9th round TKO. He was well ahead on the cards for this fight as well, having won at least seven of the eight rounds up to that point. Olascuaga will be fighting Kyoguchi on the undercard of Teraji vs. Akui.
Teraji would make two more light flyweight appearances before moving up a division. He beat Hekkie Butler via 9th round TKO in September 2023, and then eked out a Majority Decision victory over Carlos Canizales in January 2024.
Teraji and his management decided it was time to go up in weight, so they jumped up to the flyweight division and fought for the vacant WBC title in October 2024. Teraji would go on to win via 11th round TKO and was far ahead on all three cards. At the time of the finish, his lowest score was 98-92.
Kenshiro Teraji Odds
Kenshiro Teraji opened as a -480 betting favorite and his odds currently sit in a range of -400 to -500. This is the 5th consecutive bout where Teraji is listed as the odds-on favorite. The last time he was an underdog came in November 2022, when he battled Hiroto Kyoguchi.
Seigo Yuri Akui Recent Fights
Seigo Yuri Akui suffered both of his pro losses in a 14-month period in 2017-18. His first pro loss was against the highly talented and undefeated Junto Nakatani in August 2017, via 6th round TKO. His second loss came against Jaysever Abcede via 8th round TKO in October 2018.
Since then, Akui has won nine fights in a row. He became the Japanese flyweight champ in 2019, after winning the vacation regional belt via 1st round TKO over Shun Kosaka.
Eventually, the competition would get tougher as we saw Akui go the distance in six of his next seven bouts.
Akui would fight three times last year and was successful in all three bouts. He stepped into the ring in January 2024, and beat Artem Dalakian via decision. Not only was this his first 12-round fight, but he also captured the WBA flyweight title. Akui won with the scores of 116-112, 117-111, 119-109.
He would then make two successful title defenses of the WBA championship to close out the year. The first defense was a unanimous decision win over Taku Kuwahara in May 2024. Akui won with the scores of 117-111, 117-111, 118-110.
His second defense was more difficult as he squeaked by with a split decision win over Thananchai Charunphak with the scores of 115-113, 117-111, 113-115.
Seigo Yuri Akui Odds
For the second time in his last four bouts, Seigo Yuri Akui is listed as the underdog. He opened at +330 odds and currently sits in a range of +300 to +400 odds. He was the betting favorite in his last two fights, which followed being listed as the underdog against Artem Dalakian in January 2024.
Teraji vs. Akui Predictions
If you are unfamiliar with these two fighters, then get your popcorn ready because this is going to be a hard-hitting fight between two men who won’t back down.
They’re both close to the same size, so neither will have any real advantages in reach or height. In fact, I don’t see either fighter having any major advantage in skills as well.
I do believe Teraji is the slightly better fighter overall. But don’t let that statement fool you because Akui is a live dog in this matchup.
The winner is going to be set up as the man to beat in the division moving forward. With that said, I see Teraji coming away with the victory in a highly competitive and entertaining title unification fight.
Bet: Kenshiro Teraji (-400)
The Best Kenshiro Teraji vs. Seigo Yuri Akui Prop Bets
The following Kenshiro Teraji vs. Seigo Yuri Akui prop bets are courtesy of BetUS:
Over/Under 10.5 rounds
- Over 10.5 (-130)
- Under 10.5 (+100)
For Teraji he’s gone Over 10.5 rounds just once in his last seven bouts and only six times in his pro career. Akui has gone over this mark in three consecutive fights.
I like for this bout to go Over 10.5 rounds as I see these two men being very close in skills, durability and fight IQ.
Bet: Over 10.5 rounds (-130)
Will Fight go the distance?
- Yes (Even)
- No (-140)
Akui has gone the distance in 11 of his 24 pro bouts. In fact, he’s gone the distance in six of his last seven pro fights which includes five in a row.
Teraji has gone the distance in nine of his 25 pro fights. That includes only two decisions in his last eight bouts.
Despite the odds favoring this fight to end inside the distance, I like for it to go the full 12 rounds. I think we get a great fight this Thursday and it will take the judges to decide it.
Bet: Yes (Even)
Method of Victory
- Akui via TKO/KO/DQ (+900)
- Akui via decision (+650)
- Teraji via TKO/KO/DQ (-105)
- Teraji via decision (+175)
- Draw (+1600)
As you can see from above, I like for this bout to go Over 10.5 rounds and the full distance. With that said, I am leaning towards Teraji winning this fight. I think he’s slightly better than Akui but not by much.
This is going to be an exciting clash between two rugged boxers. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a Draw and ran it back later this year.
Bet: Teraji via decision (+175)
Betting on Rounds
- Either Winner in rounds 1-4 (+1000)
- Either Winner in rounds 5-8 (+335)
- Either Winner in rounds 9-12 (+275)
- Fight To Go The Distance (Even)
I’m taking this fight to go the full 12 rounds, but if you are looking to hedge that bet then considering a flier on the option of either fighter winning in rounds 9-12.
Neither man is in danger of losing in the early portions of this clash. However, I can see a possible scenario where fatigue and attrition set in during the championship rounds.
Bet: Fight To Go The Distance (Even)
What’s Next For The Winner of Teraji vs. Akui?
Kenshiro Teraji has made it clear that he wants to unify all four titles in the flyweight division. I would imagine that Akui has the same ambitions. With that said, it could be slightly different paths depending on the winner of this fight.
If Akui wins, then I can see him moving on to another unification bout immediately. Since Olascuaga is on the undercard, it makes perfect sense for these two champs to fight next. Keep in mind, Teraji already defeated Olascuaga, so I don’t see that being next in line for Kenshiro.
In fact, if Teraji does win as I predict he will, then his next bout will almost certainly be against mandatory challenge Galal Yafai who is currently the WBC interim champ.
I have no problem with this bout. In fact, I think Yafai is one of the best flyweights in the sport. So, whoever wins this bout, should be in line for another title unification clash.
Let’s hope by this time next year, we’re talking about a fight for the undisputed flyweight crown regardless of how we get there.
