On Friday, March 28, the 2025 UFL seasons gets under way. And, just like last season, the race to the UFL championship begins with a 10-week regular season.

Each UFL franchise will play the teams in its division twice and then cross over for a single game against the teams in the other division. Once the regular season has concluded, a two-week postseason begins as qualified Playoff teams fight for the UFL Championship.

Last year, the Birmingham Stallions won the 2024 UFL Championship, which further emphasized their status as the “King of Spring football”. So, it should come as no surprise that Birmingham enters as the odds-on favorites to win the 2025 UFL Championship.

If you are familiar with betting on NFL games, then betting on the UFL is not much different. So, let’s take a look at the latest UFL Championship odds, examine how each UFL team looks heading into the season, and make our 2025 UFL Championship predictions.

UFL Schedule

  • Regular season: March 28 – June 1
  • Playoffs: June 8 – June 14

DC Defenders +600San Antonio Brahmas +600
Michigan Panthers +700Arlington Renegades +1100
Memphis Showboats +1600Houston Roughnecks +1800

Birmingham is the clear favorite (+200) to repeat as UFL champions after dominating the 2024 season. The Stallions were led by QB Adrian Martinez, who actually led the UFL in rushing. Martinez averaged 5.4 yards per carry and finished with 528 yards rushing, despite only starting seven of the ten regular season games.

Houston has the longest odds (+1800) of any UFL team to win the 2025 championship. The Roughnecks won just one game last season and despite bringing in former Baltimore Ravens QB Anthony Brown, Houston still has a ways to go before they will compete for a title.

Two teams that could make things interesting are Michigan (+700) and San Antonio (+600). Both play outstanding defense. San Antonio gave up a league-best 15.3 points per game last season. They upgraded the quarterback position by adding Jarrett Guarantano, Kevin Hogan, and Kellen Mond.

The Panthers welcome back two of the best defensive players in the league from last year – DE Breeland Speaks and S Kai Nacua. Speaks led the UFL in sacks with 9.5 and Nacua tied for the league lead in interceptions.

UFL Teams

The following is a breakdown of each UFL team.

Birmingham Stallions

After a 9-1 season in 2024, can the Stallions repeat? Oddsmakers and sportsbooks sure think so. While QB Adrian Martinez made a name for himself last season, he will not return to Birmingham this season. Martinez, who was the UFL MVP in 2024, is currently on the New York Jets roster.

Not all is lost for the Stallions though as Matt Corral, who started three games last season, is back along with two other familiar Birmingham names Alex McGough and J’Mar Smith. Smith was the Stallions starter in 2023 before a finger injury landed him on injured reserve for the entire season. McGough would quarterback Birmingham in both 2022 and 2023. He led the Stallions to back-to-back USFL championships and won the 2023 USFL MVP.

It’s not all offense for Birmingham. Linebacker DeMarquis Gates returns to a unit that allowed the fewest points per game (18.0 ppg) in the USFL Division. It’s the same defense that shut out San Antonio in the 2024 UFL championship 25-0.

St. Louis Battlehawks

The Battlehawks won the XFL Division last year, edging out San Antonio on a tiebreaker. St. Louis finished 7-3 in the regular season behind a pretty potent offense led by QB AJ McCarron. McCarron will not return in 2025 and head coach Anthony Becht has a whole new QB room – Max Duggan, Chevan Cordeiro, and Manny Wilkins.

The new quarterbacks will have a number of new weapons to choose from. Wide receivers Andy Isabella and Denzel Mims are deep threats that can score on every touch. The defense also returns starting safety Lukas Denis. He had a pair of interceptions last year and averaged nearly four tackles per game last season. That earned him some time on the Atlanta Falcons roster last season.

DC Defenders

The Defenders had a somewhat disappointing 2024. They finished 4-6 and in third place in the XFL Division behind St. Louis and San Antonio. The favorite to win last year’s UFL MVP was DC QB Jordan Ta’amu. He put up some solid numbers. Ta’amu had 1,846 yards passing, which was second in the UFL, and added 15 touchdown passes. It was not enough as DC would lose three of its last four games to land outside of playoff position.

Ta’amu returns and he’ll have former Oklahoma State star Spencer Sanders on his heels. Sanders and Ta’amu will both have WR Chris Rowland back. Rowland was also the Defenders leading punt and kick returner in 2024. He led the UFL in kick return yards.

Malik Fisher (6-3, 262) returns to his defensive end spot. Fisher tied for second in the UFL in sacks with 7.0 and he was also second in tackles for loss with 8.0. DC’s defense gave up the most points in the four-team XFL Division.

San Antonio Brahmas

The Brahmas pulled the playoff upset last year. They ended the regular season with a 13-12 loss to St. Louis, which gave the Battlehawks the XFL Division title and a home playoff game. The Brahmas then went on the road and upset St. Louis 25-15 the following week to earn a trip to the UFL championship. Unfortunately, that game didn’t go as planned and the Brahmas lost 25-0.

San Antonio finished 7-3 in the regular season with a run-of-the-mill QB in Chase Garbers. The Brahmas will have Jarrett Guarantano, who started four games for Houston last season. They also have Kevin Hogan and former Texas A&M star Kellen Mond.

The Brahmas had the best defense in the UFL last year. They held opponents to just 15.3 points per game. San Antonio had two players in the UFL top 10 in sacks but only one returns. Jordan Ferguson (6-1, 270) is back after recording 5.0 sacks and 7.0 tackles for loss.

Michigan Panthers

The Panthers went 7-3 a year ago with a rock solid defense that allowed 18.9 points per game and an offense that did just enough to get it done. Former Purdue and LSU QB Danny Etling returns to lead Michigan. He’ll also have Rocky Lombardi and Bryce Perkins behind him.

The running game is in good hands with the return of RB Matthew Colburn. He finished fifth in the UFL in rushing last year with 401 yards. Colburn averaged 4.5 yards per carry in 2024. Marcus Simms was the Panthers top receiving threat. He wound up with 23 catches for 426 yards and three touchdowns. Simms returns in 2025 as well. The defense gets a boost as mentioned earlier with the return of Speaks and Nacua.

Arlington Renegades

The Renegades were an interesting team in 2024 and could make some in 2025. Arlington could score. They finished second in the XFL Division with 24.7 points per game, but they just couldn’t stop anybody on defense. The Renegades allowed 24.9 points per game.

The offense was led by the UFL’s leading passer, QB Luis Perez who threw for 2,309 yards and 18 touchdowns, another league best. Perez’s top target, Tyler Vaughns, is also back in 2025. Vaughns had 45 catches and 502 yards last season. That ranked fourth in the UFL.

The Renegades added S Brady Breeze in the offseason to try and shore up a defense that allowed 25 or more points in six of ten games last season. After an 0-6 start, the Renegades did go 3-1 over the final four weeks of the regular season.

Memphis Showboats

Memphis had a rough go in 2024. The Showboats were definitely not showboating on defense last season. They were the UFL’s worst, allowing 29 points per game. The Showboats had a league-worst point differential of -102. Somehow, Memphis allowed just 12 points in its season opener and 12 more in its season finale – the only two wins of the season. In between, the Showboats allowed 30 or more points in six of eight games.

The offense wasn’t much better. QB Quinten Dormady returns (1,205 passing yards, 6 TDs) which might not be a good thing. The better thing might be that Memphis holds the rights to former Kansas QB Jason Bean who they drafted with the first pick in the latest draft. Whoever plays quarterback will have two top ten wide receivers – Jonathan Adams (443 receiving yards) and Daewood Davis (446).

Whatever happens, the Showboats have to improve on defense. The team signed former Tennessee Titan CB Eric Garror, who made four NFL starts in 2023. Memphis is hoping he can help a soft defense.

Houston Roughnecks

The Roughnecks ended up with the worst record in the UFL last year at 1-9. A Week 4 win over Arlington saved the Roughnecks from a winless season. The offense was just awful. Houston scored 20 or more points just three times in 10 games. They averaged 15.8 points per game and just couldn’t ever find any continuity.

They did sign Brown, as mentioned earlier, the former Ravens QB who has had NFL success. The defense added a stud pass rusher in the draft when Houston took Eyabi Okie-Anoma with the second overall pick. He should make an instant impact on a defense full of holes. The one bright spot is Markel Roby. He returns at safety. Roby tied for the UFL lead in interceptions last season.

UFL Championship Predictions

After breaking down each team and seeing some of the familiar faces as well as some of the new ones, one theme keeps recurring. That theme is that the right culture breeds championships. There is a reason why the Birmingham Stallions have won three straight championships (two USFL, one UFL) over the past three seasons.

It’s the same reason why the Stallions are the +200 favorite to capture another UFL title. The quarterback may be different, though Corral did make three starts last season. There is plenty of elite talent at the skill positions and there’s even more on the defensive side of the ball.

No matter what league at what level, defense is still supreme. The best defense will always trump the best offense in the end. Ask the Kansas City Chiefs about that. The Stallions have built a culture under head coach Skip Holtz who has led the team beginning with that first season in the USFL in 2022. The Stallions haven’t had much staff turnover and the results, well, they speak for themselves.

Culture, strong defense, and enough offensive weapons to give the rest of the UFL headaches will carry Birmingham to a second consecutive UFL championship.

Bet:  Birmingham Stallions (+200)

2024 UFL Championship Game

Birmingham won the USFL championship in 2022 and 2023 and they rode that success to a 9-1 finish in the inaugural UFL season in 2024. The Stallions got the home playoff game in Round 1 and hosted second-place Michigan in the first round of the postseason. Birmingham won easily 31-18, the Stallions third win over the Panthers in 2024.

The Stallions would earn a rematch with the only team that gave Birmingham a regular season loss – San Antonio. The Brahmas won the XFL Division by upsetting St. Louis on its home turf in its semifinal game, but any thoughts of a UFL title were quickly dashed. Birmingham rushed for 210 yards and grabbed an 8-0 lead when they scored just before the end of the first half.

Then, the Stallions scored on their first two possessions of the third quarter to go ahead 22-0 and the game was essentially over. They would tack on a field goal to set the final 25-0 and record the UFL’s first and only shutout of the 2024 season.
