The story is the same on the men’s side, and I already took a look at the men’s Australian Open odds. Now it’s time to see which women are good bets to take home the hardware when the action fires off on January 12th in Melbourne, Australia.

This year’s Australian Open technically begins on January 6th, with the fully qualified field launching the knockout tournament on January 12th.

When is the Australian Open Draw?

The draw at the Australian Open finalizes the first round matchups and sets the field for the rest of the tournament. 

The top two seeds are placed on opposite ends of the tourney, with the draw establishing the rest of the matchups. This important Australian Open moment will be conducted on Thursday, January 9th, on the steps of Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne Park.

How to watch the Australian Open?

If you’re looking for the Australian Open TV schedule, just keep in mind that the official channels won’t be known until the field is set. That said, people in the US should be able to take in matches on ESPN channels as well as the Tennis Channel.

2024 WTA Australian Open Results

Tennis fans watched Aryna Sabalenka win her second straight Australian Open title in 2024, as she swept Zheng Qinwen in consecutive sets.

This has been Sabalenka’s tournament of late, as she beat Elena Rybakina the year before and started showing signs of emerging in 2022 by making it to the fourth round.

Last year’s Australian ultimately saw Sabalenka remind everyone of how dominant she can be, but it also got an epic run out of Zheng Qinwen, which represented her best grand slam finish to date.

Nobody will be shocked to see Aryna Sabalenka as the Australian Open favorite. She’s won two of these in a row and the only thing surprising is that her odds aren’t better. At her +225 price tag, she is arguably coming in as a nice discount for bettors.

While she makes sense as the top favorite, winning three grand slams in a row is never easy. Iga Swiatek has never made it to a final in this event, but she does have numerous grand slam titles across both the women’s US Open and French Open.

Could this be the year she adds an Australian Open trophy to her case? It’s possible, and her talent and dominance elsewhere has her coming in with the second best odds.

Women’s Australian Open Favorites

The following WTA players are considered the odds-on favorites to win the 2025 Women’s Australian Open: 

Aryna Sabalenka (+225)

Your top betting favorite to win the 2025 Australian Open, Sabalenka has won two titles in a row here and may not be ready to stop.

As great as she’s been in Melbourne, Sabalenka matched that success last year with a win at the 2024 US Open, too. These two events represent her only grand slam titles, but that’s still no small feat and she is clearly cooking with gas at the moment.

Sabalenka’s two grand slams in 2024 had her cap the year ranked #1 in women’s tennis, and she was even named the WTA Player of the Year. Obviously she could always struggle to keep it going against stiff competition, but there isn’t a ton of logic to suggest she’ll be dethroned just yet.

Not sure about her form heading into the Australian Open? Don’t be so quick to forget that she capped her 2024 in style by winning the Wuhan Open. In good form and showing dominant ability at this event, she looks like a fantastic bet at her current odds.

Iga Swiatek (+350)

Swiatek is an interesting Australian Open contender, seeing as she’s an elite tennis star with title wins under her belt, but she hasn’t enjoyed a ton of high-level success specifically in Melbourne.

Her odds reflect her ability on the court, as well as the fact that she’s won two different grand slams already. Naturally, it stands to reason that she’s good enough to eventually rise up and win her first Australian Open championship.

At these odds, I’d definitely give Swiatek a long look. The 23-year old has solid momentum stemming from 2024, as she took home the bronze medal at the Paris Games and also secured her fourth French Open title.

Success has admittedly been hard to come by in this specific event, as Swiatek has made it to the semi-finals just once, and hasn’t managed to escape the fourth round in any of her other five tries.

Could her seventh Australian Open entry be the charm? It’s possible, and at +350, she’s worth a shot.

Cori Gauff (+450)

Also worth a try at your favorite online sports betting sites is Coco Gauff. She sports even more appealing odds than Swiatek, and she’s enjoyed more recent success in this event, reaching the semi-finals a year ago.

Gauff lost to the eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka (2-0), which is nothing for her to hang her head over. Thankfully, she rebounded to have a strong 2024, and capped it by winning the 2024 WTA Finals.

En route to that impressive victory, she edged out all of the big names she’ll be looking up at in this tourney. She took out Swiatek and Sabalenka, specifically, showcasing her ability to hang with the best of the best.

Her odds and production at this event still don’t make her the safest of bets, but Gauff is live to stage the upset – especially when you consider her 5-4 edge in her career against Sabalenka.

Best Australian Open Women’s Betting Value

I actually love two solid betting values for this tennis market. First, there’s Zheng Qinwen (+1000), who was runner-up here last year. She did get swept by Sabalenka, but it was the first grand slam final appearance for the 22-year old and could be a sign of things to come.

Just as important, Qinwen displayed true grit by winning gold in women’s tennis at the 2024 Paris Olympics and also made it to the title match of the 2024 WTA Finals.

After a really nice stretch, could she return to the scene of the crime and finish the job? At this price tag, I certainly wouldn’t rule it out.

I’m also high on Naomi Osaka (+1200) who offers even more betting value. Osaka is even more intriguing, as she has won the Australian Open twice before. The 27-year old also has two US Open titles to her name, and she has loads of experience to lean on.

Osaka has regressed a bit compared to the field due to her 2023 pregnancy. It’s arguable she will struggle to regain her previous form, but now that she’s over a year removed from that adjustment, now could be her time to shine again.

Considering her talent and past success in this event, I think she’s a very interesting sleeper pick at +1200.

Top Women’s Australian Open Longshot

I don’t think I’d be going too hard at value bets beyond Qinwen and Osaka. They both look like very solid tries, but even they are not amazing bets to get the job done.

That said, if you want to aim even higher, why not consider Sofia Kenin? Her astronomical odds (+12500!) make her an extremely unlikely bet to deliver, but she did win this event in 2020.

The 26-year old is still in her physical prime and she did gain some positive momentum in 2024. Not only was she part of the tandem that won the Miami Open doubles title, but she also reached the final of the Pan Pacific Open this past October.

It might be a reach, but you won’t find better Australian Open odds for a player under 30 that has improving form and has won this championship in the past. Could it be the perfect combination? I doubt it, but at +12500 I’m willing to feign belief.

2025 Women’s Australian Open Predictions

It’s tough to fall in love with the favorite, but I haven’t seen much to get me away from Aryna Sabalenka with any confidence. Are there other quality players who have a shot at dethroning her? Sure, but they’ve all been pretty inconsistent as far as proving their ability to go deep into a tourney like this.

Sabalenka has been dominant, she’s won two in a row here, her form has been good, and her price is a little too good to ignore. Anytime you can get a viable favorite close to plus money, you should consider it.

Her price is beyond that at +225 and I don’t think I can turn away from it and look at myself in the mirror. I do like the idea of taking a stab with some hedges via value bets like Osaka or Qinwen, but I am anticipating a three-peat for the reigning Australian Open champ.
