On Saturday, December 14, the WWE will resurrect its historic Saturday Night’s Main Event franchise for the first time in over 16 years. It marks the second time in the 21st century that the promotion brought back a show that was once one of the company’s most prestigious events.
SNME debuted in 1985, and ushered in many memorable moments during the company’s Hulkamania Era. A generation of wrestling fans grew up on Saturday Night’s Main Event as the franchise ran 31 episodes from 1985 until 1992.
The first resurrection of Saturday Night’s Main Event came in 2006 and ran until 2008. The WWE released five SNME episodes over that span. In total, there have been 36 Saturday Night’s Main Event episodes heading into this weekend’s show.
Speaking of old-school shows and wrestling fans, the WWE also announced that Jesse “The Body” Ventura would return for a special appearance on SNME. Ventura used to be one of the primary TV commentators for the majority of the franchise’s original run.
As of this writing, there are five matches confirmed for Saturday’s big show. Four of those matches will have WWE championships on the line.
The December 14th SNME show is headlined by Cody Rhodes defending his Undisputed Championship against Kevin Owens. This highly anticipated event will emanate from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.
The show will also crown the first ever Women’s US Champion along with title matches for the Women’s World Championship and the Men’s World Heavyweight Championship.
This weekend’s WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event has an 8pm ET start time on Peacock. Let’s take a closer look at the available WWE odds, courtesy of the top sports betting sites, and make our WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event predictions.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Card

---|---|---|
Sami Zayn vs. Drew McIntyre | Drew McIntyre (-700) | Drew McIntyre (-700) |
Women’s US Championship Match | NA | Chelsea Green (NA) |

Undisputed WWE Championship Match | Cody Rhodes (-500) | Cody Rhodes (-500) |
As of this writing, there isn’t much betting value on the board for WWE’s SNME show. Currently, Liv Morgan is the biggest odds-on favorite at -5000. The smallest favorite of the show is Gunther (-300) as he defends his title in a triple-threat match.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Predictions
The following WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event predictions are for the confirmed matches as of this writing:
Sami Zayn vs. Drew McIntyre
- Sami Zayn (+400)
- Drew McIntyre (-700)
If you have been following the WWE for the last few years, you would have seen Sami Zayin join, get kicked out, and join the Bloodline again.
He was a longtime sidekick of the original Bloodline faction before things turned south for the popular wrestler. Eventually, he would reunite with The Usos and Roman Reigns to battle against the New Bloodline led by Solo Sikoa.
At the WWE Crown Jewel Premium Live Event, Reigns teamed up with his cousins The Usos to battle The New Bloodline. To the surprise of many, the New Bloodline won that match and then tried to take out Reigns afterwards. Zayn would come out to make the save and eventually join up with his Samoan buddies.
The team would add CM Punk to battle the entire New Bloodline and Bronson Reed at Survivor Series: War Games. The OG Bloodline, along with Punk, would be victorious.
Although most of the WWE Universe was elated over Paul Heyman returning to help guide Team Reigns to a War Games victory, there was one person unhappy with the outcome – Drew McIntyre.
The week after Survivor Series, McIntyre returned to WWE programming and laid out Zayn with a Brogue Kick. The reasoning behind his attack was simple – he said that people don’t really change.
McIntyre was referring to how Zayn and Jey Uso went back to Reigns and fought alongside him. McIntyre had a long feud versus Reigns and CM Punk as well. Pretty much, the Scottish superstar had many reasons why Zayn ended up eating a kick to the face.
Ultimately, McIntyre’s attack led to Zayn demanding a match at SNME, which RAW General Manager Adam Pearce granted.
This match should be entertaining as both wrestlers are excellent inside the ring. However, this feels like a feud that is meant to launch McIntyre to something bigger. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up making his way through the entire OG Bloodline and landing at the feet of Reigns one more time.
As for this weekend’s SNME bout, the oddsmakers got it right. Take McIntyre to win a competitive match, which will put him back into contention for whatever title he chooses.
Bet: Drew McIntyre (-700)
Women’s US Championship Match
- Michin (NA)
- Chelsea Green (NA)
On the November 8 episode of SmackDown, the WWE announced the debut of a women’s United States Championship just like the men. In fact, they’re also going to implement a women’s Intercontinental Championship belt as well.
On a side note, it really makes very little sense to have two additional secondary titles for the women’s division. This portion of the WWE roster is much smaller than the men’s division and lacks any true reason for two belts. In fact, it’s hard to justify any need for a secondary title when there’s already two world championships and tag-team titles.
Well, now that I got that off my chest, let’s continue.
SmackDown GM Nick Aldis announced that a tournament will begin on the November 15 episode of SmackDown to crown the inaugural Women’s US Champ. The tournament will run until December 14, which a champ will be crowned on Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The tournament began with four triple-threat matches to see which superstars advanced to the Semifinals.
In the first bout, on November 15, Bayley ended picking up the victory over B-Fab and Candice LeRae. The ending came when Bayley threw LeRae out to the floor and then rolled up B-Fab for the pin.
The second bout took place on November 22, and featured Chelsea Green vs. Bianca Belair vs. Blair Davenport. The ending came when Belair was distracted by a backstage view of her partner Jade Cargill getting savagely attacked. This allowed Green to pin Davenport for the win.
On Nov. 29, Michin picked up the win after capitalizing on Lash Legend hitting Piper Niven with her finisher – the Lash extension. Michin knocked Lash out of the way and pinned Niven for the victory to advance to the next round.
The final match of the opening round took place on December 6 and featured Naomi vs. Tiffany Stratton vs. Elektra Lopez. This was the shortest match of the tourney so far, but nearly three minutes. Stratton got the win by pinning Lopez after Candice LeRae interfered.
The tournament Semifinal matches took place on the December 13 episode of SmackDown. In the first match, we saw Michin defeat Tiffany Stratton in what I consider a mild upset. The finish came when Stratton missed a moonsault and Michin hits her finisher (Eat Defeat) for the pinfall victory.
The second match saw Bayley battle Chelsea Green. Unfortunately for Bayley, she fell victim to the number’s game as Niven helped her friend Green out and distracted Bayley. Green would end up hitting her finisher on Bayley for the victory.
With the Tournament Final set for Saturday Night’s Main Event, WWE betting sites have yet to release odds for this match. However, we can still make our predictions. I caution you to keep an eye out for these odds to see if there’s any value on the boards when they’re released.
Heading into the tourney, including all the way up until the Semifinals, I was picking Stratton to win it all. She’s the perfect candidate for this mid-card title. Yet, the same could be said about Green. And, with the help of Niven, I expect Green to walk away as the inaugural Women’s US Champ.
Bet: Chelsea Green (NA)
Women’s World Championship Match
- (c)Liv Morgan (-5000)
- Iyo Sky (+1000)
In addition to the Men’s War Games match, the women also had one at Survivor Series a few weeks ago. That match saw Iyo Sky’s team pick up the victory of Liv Morgan’s team. The victory just added fuel to the fire as Sky had already earned a title shot against Morgan by winning a women’s Battle Royal on the November 4 episode of RAW.
As stated above, Morgan has the biggest odds for the entire SNME card. Yet, the WWE wants us to pretty much believe that Sky has a real shot at winning, despite knowing that Morgan isn’t dropping the title to her or anyone else until next year.
Further cementing the outcome is the fact that Sky isn’t a believable world champion right now considering the other names that Morgan could drop the belt to.
There’s no reason to bet on this match regardless of how entertaining it should be. Instead, enjoy the show and move on to other betting opportunities.
Bet: Liv Morgan (-5000)
World Heavyweight Triple Threat Match
- (c)Gunther (-300)
- Finn Balor (+800)
- Damian Priest (+1000)
This triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship is the culmination of multiple angles over the last six months. Despite my criticism of WWE at times, I love the fact that there is long term continuity with storylines and a great deal of depth. I believe these aspects have really helped the promotion see a resurgence over the last few years.
Gunther and Damian Priest battled at Summer Slam for the title when Priest was the champion. The Ring General would go on to win the championship, which also led to Priest getting booted from The Judgement Day faction of which he was the leader. Finn Balor was one of the main catalysts for booting Priest.
The faction has battled Priest over the fall and into the winter including numerous attacks that caused Priest to lose his rematch against Gunther at Survivor Series.
Gunther didn’t want or ask for the help, but he sure did enjoy keeping the championship. RAW GM Adam Pearce saw enough of the Judgement Day’s shenanigans and decided to add Priest to this match. Originally, it was going to be Gunther vs. Balor after their number of altercations and war of words.
Triple threat matches are a convenient way to have a champ lose without making him or her look weak or less valuable to the fans. So, there’s certainly a possibility of the WWE deciding to move the belt.
With that said, I don’t see Gunther dropping the title until closer to WrestleMania next year. He’s a legit champ with plenty of value to the fans and WWE programming. Priest and Balor are not at his level of on-air credibility right now.
I see Gunther taking advantage of the bad blood between Priest and Balor to pick up the victory and moving into 2025 as the champ.
Bet: Gunther (-300)
Undisputed WWE Championship Match
- (c)Cody Rhodes (-500)
- Kevin Owens (+300)
At Bash In Berlin, I was loudly beating the drums for a Kevin Owens heel turn:
“The only meaningful step for this match is to have Owens turn heel. The WWE can make Owens pissed as he takes offense to Rhodes’ act by stating he doesn’t need anyone’s charity. We could have a classic Owens heel turn that puts him back into the spotlight in a more meaningful way.”
Thankfully, that’s exactly what the WWE had in mind because a heel Owens is the best version of KO. Since then, Owens has been on a ruthless streak of attacking wrestlers like Rhodes and Randy Orton.
His attacks on Orton led to a match at Crown Jewel, which he continued his heel ways and moving closer to another world title match against Rhodes. This time, it would be as enemies and not friends.
With Rhodes fed up over Owens’ behavior towards himself and other wrestlers as well, the match for Cody’s championship was booked for SNME.
As cool as it would be to see Owens as the Undisputed WWE Champion, it’s not going to happen at the expense of WWE’s golden boy Cody Rhodes. Speaking of “Golden Boy,” MAX has a documentary out on Oscar De La Hoya that I plan on watching this weekend before SNME.
Yeah, sometimes I like to share my random thoughts with y’all.
As for this match, it’s really crazy that Rhodes’ odds aren’t much higher. You can book The American Nightmare as your champ until at least the 2025 WrestleMania. Right now, there isn’t anyone to take the belt off of Rhodes other than Reigns or Punk. And, that wouldn’t happen until a major event like Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.
Bet: Cody Rhodes (-500)
