Virginia Tech junior safety Devon Hunter has been suspended indefinitely, the school announced Monday.
Hunter didn't live up to standards expected from the school, according to coach Justin Fuente.
"Devon Hunter has been suspended indefinitely from all football team activities effective immediately for not upholding the high standards we have for our student-athletes," Fuente said in a statement. "We cannot comment further on Virginia Tech student conduct issues until the matter is resolved."
Hunter was projected to be a starter at safety this season. He has 25 tackles and one sack in 27 career games (three starts).
Virginia Tech is currently in a pause from football activities due to COVID-19 issues that led to the postponement of this Saturday's game against Virginia. The 20th-ranked Hokies are now slated to begin their campaign against North Carolina State on Sept. 26.
