The Montreal Canadiens acquired defenseman Joel Edmundson from the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Edmundson, who can become an unrestricted free agent on Oct. 9, recorded 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 68 games this past season with the Hurricanes. He was acquired by Carolina in a trade from the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Justin Faulk on Sept. 24.

Edmundson collected 72 points (20 goals, 52 assists) in 337 career games with the Blues and Hurricanes. He was selected by St. Louis in the second round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
