The Chicago Fire exercised the 2021 contract option for defender Jonathan Bornstein on Tuesday.
Bornstein, 35, has one goal in four starts this season. He started 11 games with Chicago in 2019.
"We are pleased that Jonathan will be back with the team in 2021," Fire sporting director Georg Heitz said in a statement. "Since arriving at the Club, he has consistently shown his experience and qualities as a player. Jonathan has also been an excellent leader and mentor for the young players on the squad. We look forward to working with him again next season."
Bornstein originally joined the MLS in 2006, tallying nine goals and 10 assists in 134 games over five seasons with Chivas USA.
He played in Mexico's Liga MX from 2011-18 and with Israel's Maccabi Netanya from 2018-19 before signing with the Fire on July 22, 2019.
Bornstein has also earned 38 caps with the U.S. Men's National Team, scoring two goals.
