Sporting Kansas City announced Saturday that an unidentified first-team player has tested positive for COVID-19.
All other players and members of the club are asymptomatic and have returned multiple negative tests results, the team announced.
Per Sporting KC, the unidentified player is self-isolating following the first positive test. The player will remain in isolation until medically cleared and will be monitored daily by the club's medical staff.
Sporting Kansas City (5-3-2, 17 points) has implemented contact tracing ahead of Sunday's home match against Minnesota United FC (5-3-2, 17 points). As of Saturday afternoon, the game was expected to take place as scheduled.
MLS protocol requires testing to be done every other day, with all players tested the day before a game. Two consecutive positives are needed to confirm a positive COVID-19 case.
