With a total prize purse of $2 million, this is the richest race for two-year old Thoroughbreds in North America. The Grade 1 Juvenile will be contested on the dirt track at Keeneland covering 1 1/16 miles in total distance.
Jackie’s Warrior leads a crowded field of 14 entries in this race. Trained by Steve Asmussen with jockey Joel Rosario on board, this two-year old Kentucky-bred colt will break from the favorable No. 7 post as a 7/5 favorite on the morning line.
Undefeated in four previous starts this year, it is easy to see why the son of Maclean’s Music is the early favorite. This winning streak includes the Hopeful and Champagne Stakes as Grade 1 events.
The biggest competition in Friday’s race should come from trainer Chad Brown’s Reinvestment Risk. This Kentucky-bred colt will break from the No. 3 post with jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. getting the ride.
Sired by Upstart, he finished second in both the Hopeful and Champagne to set-up a third- straight head-to-head matchup against the favorite. His morning line odds are set at 9/2.
Essential Quality is another contender to watch at 4/1 betting odds. He is coming off a recent victory in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland.

Breeders’ Cup Classic Preview and Picks

The ‘best of the best’ in horse racing will gunning for the lion’s share of the $6 million prize purse. The Classic is open to Thoroughbreds three and older. This race is contested on dirt over a total distance of 1¼ miles.
The 10-horse field for Saturday’s BC Classic has been set with three highly recognizable entries leading the way on the morning line odds.
The favorite is Improbable at 5/2 odds. Breaking from the No. 8 post, he will have Irad Ortiz Jr. as his jockey. This four-year old colt is one of three entries in the field trained by Bob Baffert and he is arguably the best.
The son of City Zip is riding a three-race winning streak in Grade 1 events. Previous experience in a Breeders’ Cup racing consists of a fifth-place finish in last year’s Dirt Mile.
Trainer Barclay Tagg has high hopes for this year’s Belmont Stakes winner Tiz the Law. He will start this race from the No. 2 post with jockey Manual Franco. He is listed as a 3/1 second- favorite.
This will be the New York-bred colt’s first race since finishing second in September’s Kentucky Derby. That snapped a four-race winning streak as a three-year old.
Moving down the list, Baffert’s Maximum Security has the third-best odds to win at 7/2. With Luis Saez penciled in as his jockey, this four-year old colt will break from the far outside at No. 10.
His extended six-race winning streak came to an end at Santa Anita with a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes.
The 2020 Kentucky Derby winner Authentic comes into this race with 6/1 odds to win along with Tom’s d’Etat.
