2021 Charles Schwab Challenge Odds and Predictions

The PGA Championship was an amazing event as Phil Mickelson proved to the world that he could still win at 50 years old. It also shows that longshots can pay off! Mickelson came into the PGA Championship at +20000. To put that into perspective, the favorite was Rory McIlroy at +1000.

Now the golf world moves to the Charles Schwab Challenge (Formerly the Colonial according to older golf fans) in Forth Worth Texas and there are plenty of storylines to touch on. One is that the two players who battled for the win in a playoff last year are among the favorites to win this weekend.

Daniel Berger beat Collin Morikawa in a playoff for the 2020 traditional Scottish Tartan jacket. It was the first playoff since 2014. Berger comes in at +1800 with Morikawa at +1200.

Another story worth keeping track of is that Michael Visacki (+100000) is in the field. You may remember Visacki as the player who placed an emotional phone call to his father following his Monday qualifying win for the Valspar Championship several weeks ago. The call has over 1.5 million views on Twitter.

One of those viewers must have been Charles Schwab as he sent Visacki an invitation to play in the tournament that he sponsors. No matter who the leaders are, you can bet plenty of golf fans will be keeping up with how Visacki is fairing.

The overall betting favorite heading into the opening round on Thursday is Jordan Speith at +1000. Spieth carded a 68 during the third round of the PGA Championship but his two opening rounds over 70 made for a tough run. He finished T30 following a 74 on Sunday.

Speith won this event in 2016 and was T2 in 2017. Here are the top-five favorites through +1600 to win the 2021 Charles Schwab Challenge outright according to Intertops.

Jordan Spieth +1000

Justin Thomas +1200

Collin Morikawa +1200

Daniel Berger +1800

Abraham Ancer +2000

How to Bet Golf

The Colonial Country Club will be a change of pace compared to the PGA Championship! The course plays at par 70, and a relatively short 7,209 yards. Before you start thinking this will be a breeze, consider that the John Bredemus and Perry Maxwell design is packed with tight fairways and doglegs.

Look for shotmakers staying in the fairway to rise to the top of the leaderboard. You have to go back to 2005 to find a Charles Schwab that finished with the winner beating the competition by more than 4 strokes. Since 2006, this event has ended with the winner heading to the clubhouse with a one-stroke or a playoff victory ten times.

2021 Charles Schwab Picks

Collin Morikawa +1200

Collin Morikawa carded his fourth PGA Tour win this season at the WGC Workday Championships and he’s had two T7 finishes. Last year he finished behind Daniel Berger in a playoff and made great use of his putter. The 24-year-old from California could put on a finesse golf clinic this week.

Will Zalatoris +2200

Will Zalatoris has shown he has the mental skills to stay with the leaders. His second-place finish at the Masters was not a fluke. He has followed that up with a T17 and T8 finish last week at the PGA Championship. He’s made the cut in 17 of 19 events he’s played in this year with 13 in the top-25.

Phil Mickelson +4000

Phil Mickelson has won this event twice and it’s been played on the same course since the tournament hit the PGA schedule in 1946. The lefty knows this course and could get his third win here judging by his skill and focus shown last week. Since his victory last week it’s hard to look past him.

Others I Like: Corey Conners (+2200) is coming into the event with a string of nine consecutive cuts made. He finished T17 last week at the PGA. Back in 2010, Zach Johnson (+12500) carved up this event with a tournament record-setting final score of 268.
