The Texas A&M Aggies head into the 2021 season as an up-and-coming team to watch in the SEC. After a tremendous 9-1 season, Head Coach Jimbo Fisher has high hopes for the Aggies in 2021. The team not only finished 9-1 but also ranked fourth in the AP, their highest ranking since 1939. Aggie’s historians can remember that 1939 was also the year that Texas A&M won the National Championship.
The Aggies marched into the Orange Bowl and defeated the No.13 North Carolina Tarheels. With a win in the Orange Bowl, the Aggies marked their season a resounding success. After the season came to a close for Texas A&M, the team set even higher expectations for themselves. As a force to be reckoned with in the SEC standings, the Aggies have their eyes set on an undefeated 2021.
2021 Texas A&M Aggies Futures Betting Odds
Texas A&M Aggies National Championship Odds: +2500
Texas A&M Aggies Conference Champion Odds: +1200
Texas A&M Aggies Win Total Odds: Over 9.5 (+115) vs. Under 9.5 (-135)
The Aggies find themselves with improved odds this year due to their 2020 outing. However, even though the odds have improved, you shouldn’t take the Aggies to win the National Championship. Texas A&M has two big hurdles to jump over in the SEC, Georgia and Alabama. Although Alabama is the only team out of those two they’ll face, the Aggies still face LSU & Ole Miss in 2021.
This brings into question the ability for Texas A&M to go over the 9.5 game win total. Sure, they have talent and did last year but with Alabama, Ole Miss, and LSU on the schedule, chances are slim. The over has a great payout if you’re confident with who the Aggies have at quarterback. As it stands, this schedule is too tough for them to clear over nine games.
2021 Texas A&M Offseason Grade: B
Key Additions: (DE, Malick Sylla), (OT, P.J Williams)
Key Departures: (QB, Kellen Mond), (DT, Bobby Brown), (OT, Dan Moore)
The Aggies lost a significant player in QB Kellen Mond, who led the team to success in 2020. Finding a replacement for him will be their toughest task of the offseason but you can expect Colton Taylor to start. Defensive end, Malick Sylla should bring more intensity to the A&M defense who allowed an average of 21.7 points per game.
The quarterback position is easily the hardest one to fill when you lose a talent like Mond to the NFL draft. Although the Aggies program is going in the right direction, this will be an obstacle for them in 2021.
Texas A&M Aggies Preview 2021
The Aggies have a great coaching staff and a program headed in the right direction. Unfortunately, they’ll be missing a big piece, a great starting quarterback. With Mond missing from the lineup in 2021, the Aggies are at a distinct disadvantage.
Couple that with their schedule in 2021 and the Aggies are on track to win eight games out of the season. Not nearly as good as the previous season but with room to grow in the future.
Texas A&M Aggies Futures Best Bets
Take into account their 2021 schedule and the loss of Kellen Mond and you can easily take the under on the win total. There are too many hurdles for this team to climb to win over 9.5 games. With a brand new quarterback at the helm and Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss on the schedule, the Aggies will win 9 at most.
