People would think you’re crazy if you said a 7-9 record granted a playoff visit. However, that’s exactly what the Washington Football Team received. To be fair, the entire division was lackluster, mainly due to injuries. Instead of falling to despair, the Washington Football team adapted. Finishing the season 7-9 and earning their first playoff trip since 2015. Their record in 2019 was 3-13, so first-year Head Coach Ron Rivera must’ve made a difference.
This season, in 2021, people expect a lot less from the Washington Football Team. However, they still retain the second-best odds to win the NFC East. Ron Rivera wants to put his team in the best position to win, which explains his move at quarterback. With Ryan Fitzpatrick under center, just how well can the Washington Football Team perform in 2021?
2021 Washington Football Team Futures Betting Odds
Washington Football Team Super Bowl Champion Odds: +4000
Washington Football Team Conference Champion Odds: +2800
Washington Football Team Win Totals Odds: Over 8.5 (-120) / Under 8.5 (-110)
Washington Football Team NFC East Champion Odds: +200
Although they made the playoffs in 2020, the chances for the Washington Football Team are slim. They’ll have to try and overcome the Dallas Cowboys in their division, who are getting back both of their best players. They also have a tough schedule in front of them. Unfortunately for Washington, a 7-9 record won’t get them to the playoffs this year. There are some odds that are worth exploring, though.
The NFL win totals odds are definitely one of them. For Washington to hit the over, they’d have to win nine games, giving them a 9-8 record. This is a reasonable bet, but there’s a reason the under is more favored. Making the start at quarterback is Ryan Fitzpatrick, an inconsistent quarterback, to be sure. Fitzpatrick has become a journeyman in the NFL, and there’s a reason for it. With every great game comes three bad ones.
2021 Washington Football Team Offseason Grade: C-
Key Additions: (QB, Ryan Fitzpatrick), (OT, David Sharpe)
Key Departures: (OT, Trent Williams), (DE, Ryan Kerrigan)
The Washington Football Team lost two superstars, Trent Williams and Ryan Kerrigan. Williams was a dominant force along the offensive line and garnered attention across the league. Kerrigan, the franchise’s all-time sack leader, now plays for the Eagles. These players missing from the lineup leave a gaping hole in talent. Unfortunately, neither of those two players are easily replaced.
The good news for Washington is they have another superstar in Chase Young. Young won the title of Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2020 and should have another spectacular season. Hopefully, Montez Sweat, the defensive end opposite of Chase Young, can produce more in 2021. Washington had a solid defense in 2020, responsible for most of their wins. It’d be a shame to see that defense decline in 2021.
Washington Football Team 2021 Preview
We can expect a similar outing in 2021, as they performed in 2020. This team still needs time to grow together, especially at the quarterback position. They fared well last year, and a slight improvement is expected. Unfortunately, with the return of Prescott in Dallas, Washington doesn’t seem like the team to win the NFC East. However, you can expect a slight jump in performance this year.
Washington Football Team Futures Best Bets
Taking the under on the win total is your best bet here. With the win total at 8.5, Washington would need a 9-8 record to hit the over. We see the Washington Football Team has a similar record as last season, somewhere around 7-10. It might not seem like an improvement, but it’s a step in the right direction for a team still finding its identity.
