Head coach Sam Pittman revived the Arkansas Razorbacks football program in his second season in 2021. The Razorbacks won their first four games in a row then fell victim to the SEC schedule.
After three straight losses to eventual national champion Georgia, Ole Miss, and Auburn; Arkansas won four of its last five games to finish 9-4. That included an impressive 24-10 win over Penn State in the Outback Bowl.
Pittman loses some talent, especially on defense where just three starters return. Can Pittman continue the Razorbacks rise to the upper echelon of the SEC?

Last Season
Pittman’s emphasis on toughness was evident in the Razorbacks running game. Arkansas had the seventh-best rushing attack in the country averaging 227.8 yards per game. That allowed the Razorbacks to control the football and their top-40 defense held seven of 13 opponents to 20 points or less.
Razorbacks Key Losses Heading Into 2022
WR Treylon Burks is gone to the NFL. His 1,104 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns will be missed. All three wide receivers from last year’s team are gone. As mentioned, eight starters from the Arkansas defense are gone; however, the Razorbacks are a veteran unit with plenty of players that have playing experience.
2022 Arkansas Razorbacks Team Preview
QB KJ Jefferson returns to lead the Razorbacks offense. He led Arkansas with 664 rushing yards and he passed for 2,674 more. Jefferson was extremely efficient too with just four interceptions compared to 21 touchdowns.
Dominique Johnson returns at running back and four of five offensive linemen are back. The running game should be strong once again. Defensive coordinator Barry Odom returns with two of four defensive backs. LSU transfer Dwight McGlothern will likely start at one of the corners.
2022 Arkansas Football Schedule
The season starts with three straight nonconference games at home. Cincinnati will be breaking in a new quarterback and replacing some key pieces of their 13-1 team from a year ago. South Carolina is next and then FCS Missouri State.
The Razorbacks need three wins to gather some momentum for the two weeks that follow – Texas A&M and Alabama. One good thing is that Arkansas gets the Tide at home. They play at Auburn but have LSU and Ole Miss at home. The Razorbacks also avoid a crossover with Georgia this year.
2022 Arkansas Regular Season Win Total Prediction
With the bulk of the offensive line and Jefferson back, the offense should continue to thrive. The question is on defense, but Odom has a good thing going and has enough experience to fill all the holes.
The only game that Arkansas was truly out of last season was the 37-0 blowout loss to Georgia. The Razorbacks lost to Ole Miss by a point and to Alabama by a touchdown. Pittman has built a team that gives itself chances to win in the fourth quarter.
The Razorbacks have to get off to a good start in Game 1 against Cincy. They play at BYU, which will be no cake walk and they get Liberty at home. Pittman is building something here and eight wins is almost expected.
