2022 Kentucky Jockey Club Predictions
When: Saturday, November 26th 2022
Where: Churchill Downs
The probable field for the 1 1/16-mile Kentucky Jockey Club is crowded on top with three Thoroughbred juveniles taking the lead as legitimate contenders. My picks for the win, place and show positions are Instant Coffee, Hayes Strike and Freedom Trail.
Win: Instant Coffee
The two-year colt was bred in Kentucky and he races for Gold Square, LLC. Trained by Brad Cox, Instant Coffer finish fourth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity Stakes at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington on Oct. 8. He made his debut in a seven-furlong Maiden Special Weight race at Saratoga on Sept 9. Instant Coffer won that event in 1:22.77 over Arthur’s Bride and Crupi.
As a son of Bolt d’Oro, he has a rating of 4.87 by HRN in his young career. Instant Coffee is the leading favorite heading in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes probable field.
Five experts, five days of football, over 40 picks and ALL profit!
Place: Hayes Strike
Trained by Kenneth McPeek, the Kentucky-bred two-year colt finish second in the Grade 3 Street Sense Stakes at Churchill Downs on Oct. 30. He also made a showing in the Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill on Sept. 17.
Hayes Strike won a Maiden Special Weight race at Ellis Park. He completed the one mile run on dirt in 1:39.89 over Route Runner and Rabbit Hound. Sired by Connect, he is bred to go one mile and beyond on dirt.
Show: Freedom Trail
Bred in Kentucky, he is trained by John Terranova and raced for Gatsas Stables and RA Hill Stables. The two-year colt has won first place in a Maiden Special Weight race at Belmont Park and a non-graded stakes race at Aqueduct Racetrack both at 1 1/16 miles on turf this fall.
Freedom Trail has a 4.79 HRN rating and he has been bred to have the speed and power to keep up with the leading horses in the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes. The only question mark is transitioning to dirt from turf.
