The Michigan Wolverines are one of the most storied college football programs of all time. Following years of disappointment, the 2021 campaign was a major breakthrough for the Maize and Blue. The Wolverines won the Big Ten and, most importantly, defeated arch-nemesis Ohio State.
There are some new faces on this Michigan roster in 2022. But after last year’s success, they should still be talented enough to maintain their optimism and make another big run.

The 2021 season could not have gone any better for the Michigan Wolverines. The lone regular-season loss was on the road at Michigan State, and the biggest win was a triumph over Ohio State in the season finale. After a successful season, Michigan went to the College Football Playoff for the first time.
The joy of making the Playoff was short-lived, however. The Wolverines saw their 2021 season end with a blowout loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in the semifinal round.
Michigan Key Losses Heading into 2022
The Michigan Wolverines lost two key members of their dominant defense this spring. Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo were NFL draft picks in April, leaving the Wolverines shorthanded on defense.
The offense does return most of its key performers. But losing running back Hassam Haskins will hurt the overall production.
2022 Michigan Wolverines Team Preview
The defense largely led the charge for Michigan during the 2021 season. But it will be the offense leading the way in 2022. Quarterback Cade McNamara is expected to be back at that position and running back Blake Corum should have another monster season as well.
Michigan could have some trouble getting stops in 2022. Though even if the defense takes a step back, there’s enough future NFL talent to keep them relevant.
2022 Michigan Football Schedule
One quick look at the Michigan football schedule in 2022 will make you believe in a College Football Playoff return. Michigan is home for three games during non-conference play, with Colorado State serving as the toughest opponent.
Once Big Ten play starts, Michigan will get to host both Michigan State and Penn State, two of the biggest competitors in the East Division. A road trip to Iowa is easily the most difficult game before the final week of the regular season.
Michigan will be on the road at Ohio State to end the season. There’s a good chance that game will decide the conference title.
2022 Wolverines Regular Season Win Total Prediction
The Michigan Wolverines are not going to win the Big Ten Conference this season. But it’s still going to be another successful year in Ann Arbor. Michigan doesn’t have enough talent to get past Ohio State, but they are still the second-best team in that conference.
Getting to ten wins would be another great season for Coach Harbaugh and his team. That’s exactly what is going to happen.
