The New York Giants got off to a poor start – 1-6 – in 2021 and that led to the firing of head coach Joe Judge. He was the second straight two-and-done Giants head coach. After a 4-13 season, New York hired former Buffalo offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.
New York finished last season ranked 31 st in passing offense and 31 st in total offense. The result was the 31 st -ranked scoring offense (15.2 ppg). Daboll hopes to improve that number. The defense wasn’t much better allowing 24.5 points per game (23rd). The Giants need to improve on both sides of the ball.

Last Season
If not for an overtime win at New Orleans, the Giants would have started 0-7. They did go 0-6 to close the regular season. New York was a mess from top to bottom. Injuries to Saquon Barkley and others derailed any thoughts of success in 2021.
The defense was bad. The offense was worse. The offensive line needs retooled and the Giants lacked any real receiving threats. Without Barkley on the field, the running game struggled. The Giants finished ranked 24th in rush offense (99.3 ypg).
Giants Key Losses Heading Into 2022
New York decided to move on from CB James Bradberry. S Jabril Peppers, LB Lorenzo Carter, and DT Austin Johnson are all on new teams. TE Evan Engram left for Jacksonville and offensive linemen Billy Price and Will Hernandez are gone. All of the Giants losses from 2021 may be a good thing, especially on defense.
2022 New York Giants Team Preview
The Giants were busy in the offseason. They picked up TE Ricky Seals-Jones to replace Engram. He will start and fourth-round draft pick Daniel Bellinger should contribute at the position too. The offensive line was a major concern and the Giants got Jon Feliciano from Buffalo to move in at center.
New York drafted Alabama OT Evan Neal in the first round. He will most likely start at right tackle. RB Matt Breida adds some solid depth as does veteran journeyman QB Tyrod Taylor.
2022 New York Giants Schedule
There is no beating around the bush. The Giants schedule is brutal. They went 1-5 in a weak NFC East last year. This season, the Giants get Green Bay in London and Baltimore and Indianapolis at home.
There are some games the Giants could win against Carolina, Chicago, Houston, and Detroit. Even so, it’s hard to see one of the worst offenses in the NFL making any drastic changes in one year.
2022 Giants Regular Season Win Total Prediction
How the Giants could even get to seven wins is a head-scratcher. Going over seven doesn’t seem possible for a team that has incurred double-digit losses in each of the past five seasons. The Giants have 10 or more losses in seven of the last eight seasons.
QB Daniel Jones isn’t magically going to become Josh Allen because Daboll is his new coach. He’s still the under-achieving quarterback he’s been for the past three seasons. Minus any real playmakers – other than an oft-injured Barkley – the Giants offense will rank in the bottom of the NFL once again in most statistical categories.
