The Oklahoma Sooners will enter the 2022 season with a new head coach in Brent Venables. Venables replaces Bob Stoops, who was the interim head coach after Lincoln Riley left to take the USC Trojans head coaching position.
Stoops led the Sooners to a victory over the Oregon Ducks. The Sooners have earned at least 11 victories in six of their last seven seasons.

The Sooners never appeared to be a serious contender to make it to the College Football Playoffs, as they finished No. 16 in the CFP poll. The Sooners also finished 10th in the AP poll.
Sooners Key Losses Heading Into 2022
Brian Asamoah led the Sooners’ defense with 89 tackles, as he’s now a member of the Minnesota Vikings after being drafted by them in the third round.
Kennedy Brooks rushed for 1,253 yards and 13 touchdowns, as he had three 1,000 rushing yard seasons for the Sooners. He signed as an undrafted free agent to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Spencer Rattler was supplanted by Caleb Williams as the starting quarterback, but the Sooners were 15-2 when he was running their offense. He also completed more than 70% of his passes while there.
Williams is also now moving on, as he is the new quarterback of the USC Trojans. He threw for 1,912 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Dillon Gabriel will be given the keys to the Sooners’ offense with the departures of Rattler and Williams, but fear not Sooners fans; he has a track record that suggests he’s capable of stepping into the QB role.
Gabriel threw for over 8,000 yards and 70 touchdowns during his time with the UCF Knights.
Gabriel suffered a broken left clavicle last year but should be a fit for this offense if he can regain as much health as possible.
The linebacking corps should turn into a strength for this team despite losing Asamoah and Nik Bonitto, but the combination of DaShaun White, Danny Statesman, and Marcus Stripling should still get the job done.

Oklahoma will face some tests along the way with games against Baylor, West Virginia, and Oklahoma State.
