SEC Football Week 1 Predictions

Here are the top five best bets for SEC football week 1 action on Saturday:

Oregon vs. Georgia Picks

Kick-Off: 3:30 PM ET

Odds: Georgia -17.5 / O/U 53.5 Points

The Georgia Bulldogs are ranked #3 in the preseason AP top 25, while the Oregon Ducks are ranked #11. Despite that, the Bulldogs are big favorites against the spread (-17.5 points).

This is only the second time these two programs have met. Georgia will look to come out swinging as defending National Champions, but they lost 15 players to the NFL draft, which is a new record.

Oregon’s new coach, Dan Lanning, is the former Georgia defensive coordinator, which may give the Ducks a better chance to keep things close, as Lanning is familiar with the program.

The Bulldogs may not be as stout defensively as they were last season, but the Ducks are going to have trouble putting up points. The under is 8-3 in Georgia’s last 11 games and 5-2 in the Bulldogs last 7 games against non-conference opponents. We’re backing the under in this marquee match-up.

Best Bet: Under 53.5 Points

Cincinnati vs. Arkansas Picks

Kick-Off: 3:30 PM ET

Odds: Arkansas -6.5 / O/U 52 Points

Cincinnati is coming off an impressive season where they made the college football playoffs. However, expect the Bearcats to regress due to lots of player turnover, including losing QB Desmond Ridder.

Arkansas went 9-4 last season (6-1 at home) and have high expectations in 2022. KJ Jefferson is back at QB and he’s a dual-threat, but he’ll be missing his #1 WR from last season (Treylon Burks).

The Razorbacks will likely lean on the run and get the job done at home. Arkansas are 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games, while the Bearcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.

Best Bet: Arkansas -6.5

SEC Football Odds

Troy vs. Ole Miss Picks

Kick-Off: 4:00 PM ET

Odds: Ole Miss -21.5 / O/U 57.5 Points

Ole Miss had a good season in 2021 and earned a spot in the Sugar Bowl, but there has been plenty of turnover, including at QB. Matt Corral is in the NFL and he’ll be replaced by Jaxson Dart (Formerly USC).

Dart is talented, but with a lot of new pieces, Ole Miss will likely need time to develop offensively.

Troy are no slouches defensively and should be able to cause some problems for the Rebels. We’re not confident the Trojans will be able to put up many points with Gunnar Watson at QB.

The under is 5-0 in the Rebels last five home games and 8-0 in their last eight games overall. The under is also 8-1-1 in the Trojans last ten non-conference games. This is a high total and we’re backing the under.

Best Bet: Under 57.5 Points

Utah State vs. Alabama

Kick-Off: 7:30 PM ET

Odds: Alabama -41.5 / O/U 62.5 Points

hqdefault

Utah State won the Mountain West last season with an 11-3 record and they’re 1-0 this season after defeating UConn (31-20) in CFB week 0. Alabama are the defending SEC champions.

Nothing short of a National Championship will please Bama fans in 2022 and they’re going to contend, but this point spread may be slightly too high for the Crimson Tide to cover in their opener.

Bryce Young will have plenty of weapons at his disposal to rack up points, but we also expect Bama to feature the run game, as the Aggies just allowed 245 rushing yards against UConn.

If the Aggies can make a couple stops and avoid giving up long TDs all night long, they have the ability to put up a couple scores and keep this game close enough that they’ll cover the big point spread.

Best Bet: Utah State +41.5

Georgia State vs. South Carolina Picks

Kick-Off: 7:30 PM ET

Odds: South Carolina -12.5 / O/U 56 Points

Georgia State almost upset Auburn last season and they’re 4-0 ATS in their last four games against SEC opponents, so they won’t be afraid of South Carolina. However, the Gamecocks have a new-look offense.

QB Spencer Rattler (Formerly Oklahoma) will take over an offense with a strong WR unit.

Stopping the Panthers offense won’t be simple due to a strong o-line and productive WRs. South Carolina needs to get pressure on QB Darren Grainger to force him into making mistakes.

With the point spread being relatively low, we’re banking on the Gamecocks offense to explode, which the Panthers won’t be able to keep up with. Rattler will want to put up points early and often this season.

Best Bet: South Carolina -12.5
