The SEC struggled a bit in week 2 of the college football season.
SEC teams went 9-5 SU in week 2. Alabama barely escaped Texas with a win (20-19), but they failed to cover ATS. Vanderbilt, Missouri and Texas A&M all lost against non-conference opponents.
Several games were off the board in week 2, but SEC teams only went 4-7 ATS. Only two SEC football games went over the total in week 2. Seven games involving SEC teams stayed under the total.
I only went 2-3 on my picks, which brings my season record to 6-4 for a small profit.
Let’s see if we can win some money with my SEC football week 3 picks.
SEC Football Week 3 Predictions
There are two conference games scheduled for week 3. South Carolina host #1 Georgia and LSU host Mississippi State. All 14 SEC football teams are in action on Saturday.
Here are my top five SEC football week 3 predictions:
Ole Miss vs. Georgia Tech Predictions
Kick-Off: 3:30 PM ET
Odds: Ole Miss -16.5 / Total: 62.5 Points
#20 Ole Miss (2-0) dominated Central Arkansas in week 2 (59-3). Georgia Tech (1-1) are coming off a win against Western Carolina (35-17) after losing to Clemson (41-10) to kick-off the season.
Jaxson Dart has thrown for 336 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT through two games. Ole Miss have been getting it done with the run game. They’ve rushed for 499 yards and 6 TDs in two games.
The Yellow Jackets have done well against the run. Both the Tigers and Catamounts rushed for 119 yards on 40 carries against Georgia Tech. If GT can limit big plays on the ground, they’ll keep this close.
The under is 9-1 in the Rebels last 10 games and 5-0 in the Rebels last five road games. The under is also 4-0 in Georgia Tech’s last four games overall. I’m betting on the under in this match-up.
Best Bet: Under 62.5 Points
Penn State vs. Auburn Predictions
Kick-Off: 3:30 PM ET
Odds: Penn State -3 / Total: 47 Points
Auburn (2-0) haven’t looked great against cupcake opponents and now they’re going to be tested at home against #22 Penn State (2-0) who have wins against Purdue (35-31) and Ohio (46-10).
Sean Clifford has thrown for 495 yards, 5 TDs and 1 INT in two games for PSU. He also has 2 rushing TDs. Nicholas Singleton has 210 rushing yards and 2 TDs on just 20 carries.
The Tigers should have dominated San Jose State in week 2, but they barely won (24-16). QB play is going to be a problem and that’s how you need to beat the Nittany Lions.
Penn State should get out to a lead and force T.J. Finley to throw the football. Penn State should be able to limit the Tigers on the ground and I feel like we’re getting a great price on the Nittany Lions to cover.
PSU are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games in September. They’ve struggled against the SEC (1-6 ATS in their last 7), but the Tigers are 0-5 ATS in their last five against non-conference opponents.
Penn State defeated Auburn (28-20) as 4-point favorites last season.
Best Bet: Penn State -3
Mississippi State vs. LSU Predictions
Kick-Off: 6:00 PM ET
Odds: Mississippi State -1.5 / Total: 53 Points
Mississippi State (2-0) have wins against Memphis (49-23) and Arizona (39-17). They’re 2-0 ATS and small favorites on the road against LSU (1-1) in Baton Rouge.
LSU are coming off a win against Southern (65-17), but that game didn’t answer any questions.
LSU went 5-2 at home and 3-5 in SEC play last season. They also defeated the Bulldogs on the road (28-25). However, from what we’ve seen up to this point, the Bulldogs are the team to beat.
Will Rogers has thrown 763 yards (78.6% completion rate), 9 TDs and 2 INTs. I don’t think LSU will be able to stop the Bulldogs passing attack and Mississippi State will get revenge from last season.
The Bulldogs are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 5-1 ATS following an ATS win. LSU are 0-3-1 ATS following an ATS win. The Tigers have lacked consistency and this is still a young team.
Best Bet: Mississippi State ML (-131)
South Florida vs. Florida Predictions
Kick-Off: 7:30 PM ET
Odds: Florida -24.5 / Total: 59 Points
USF (1-1) are coming off a win against Howard (42-20), but they were blown out in week 1 against BYU (50-21). Florida (1-1) amazed bettors with a week 1 upset, but they lost to Kentucky (26-16) in week 2.
Neither team has thrown a passing touchdown yet this season. Anthony Richardson should change that on Saturday, but I don’t trust the Gators to be able to run up points on the scoreboard.
Both teams are going to run the football a lot. USF have eight rushing TDs on 54 carries and the Gators have five rushing TDs on 69 carries. With both teams running the ball, that should eat up the clock.
This is the game of the season for the Bulls players and they’ll do everything they can to keep this close. My best bet in this match-up is on the under. I don’t expect 60+ points to be scored on Saturday night.
The under is 4-0 in the Bulls last four road games and that trend will continue.
Best Bet: Under 59 Points
Miami vs. Texas A&M Predictions
Kick-Off: 9:00 PM ET
Odds: Texas A&M -5 / Total: 45 Points
#13 Miami (2-0) have dominated two cupcake opponents so far this season. They defeated Bethune (70-13) and Southern Miss (30-7). They should be tested on the road against #24 Texas A&M (1-1).
The Aggies are fresh off a loss to Appalachian State (17-14). It was an embarrassing loss at home and I have no idea why the Aggies are favored on Saturday night against a team ranked higher than them.
One thing the Aggies have going for them is that they’re 5-0 ATS in their last five games against the ACC. Miami are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and the under is 5-1 in Miami’s last six against the SEC.
Tyler Van Dyke has performed well, throwing for 448 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT this season. The Hurricanes also have 487 rushing yards and 9 rushing TDs. They definitely have the edge on offense.
I’m taking the points in what should be a close game.
Best Bet: Miami +5
