The Travers Stakes is one of the biggest major graded events for the summer season. Run on dirt covering 1¼ miles, the best three-year Thoroughbreds compete in a battle at Saratoga Race Course.
This is the highlight of Saturday’s race card but the whole event is filled with action. The Ballston Spa Handicap is for fillies and mares four and up. Run on turf, the race covers 1 1/16 miles. The Grade 2 event offers $400,000 in the prize purse.
The Forego Stakes and the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial are seven-mile sprints. The $600,000 Forego is for fours and older Thoroughbreds and the $500,000 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial features three-year-olds.
The Grade 1 Personal Ensign Stakes is a $600,000 prize purse event open to four and older fillies and mares. It is a 1 1/8 miles on the dirt track at Saratoga. The $750,000 Sword Dancer Stakes targets four and up horses. The Grade 1 race covers 12 furlongs on turf.

Win: Epicenter
The goal this winning this race and a victory in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes at Saratoga is a perfect starting point. He backed up a pair of Triple Crown events with a second place run in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.
The Kentucky-bred three-year old has been first and second in his last eight races. Epicenter is made to compete in the stellar horse racing events that take place.

Zandon finished third in the Kentucky Derby and second in the Jim Dandy Stakes. Training by Chad Brown and ridden by jockey Flavien Prat, the son the Upstart gearing up for the Travers.
He has been in the money in all of the races he enter dating back to the six-furlong Maiden Special Weight event.
This three-year old has competed in 1 1/8 miles and 1¼ miles his whole life. Zandon is bred to cover the distance in races like the Travers.

As the third-rating colt at Horse Racing Nation in this race, Cyberknife is coming up third in the picks. Breaking inside for the No. 1 post, he will get a solid start out of jockey Florent Geroux.
Training Brian Cox will have a hand in pulling a dose of magic to help him around the track. Cyberknife has won the Grade 3 Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs and the Grade 1 Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park after pulling up in 18th place in the Kentucky Derby.
