The 2021 college football season for Wake Forest was the best in over a decade as the team was able to clinch the Atlantic Division title. The Demon Deacons won 11 games a season ago, and they will be looking for a similar performance in 2022.
College Football Betting Sites
You won’t find the Demon Deacons as a betting favorite to win the Atlantic Division, and now the biggest question is if they will be able to put up back-to-back terrific seasons.

Last Season
The Clemson Tigers had a disappointing season, and Wake Forest was more than ready to take advantage. Wake Forest went 7-1 a year ago in ACC play to win the Atlantic Division, which meant a date with the Pittsburgh Panthers in the ACC title game.
The Demon Deacons were blown out by Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship Game by a score of 45-21. Wake Forest capped off the season by beating Rutgers in the Gator Bowl by a score of 38-10.
Demon Deacons Key Losses Heading into 2022
Tight end Brandon Chapman has moved on, and his absence will really hurt the running game as he was a terrific blocker. Wake Forest also lost a starting lineman, but they have plenty of depth at that position.
Luke Masterson led the team in tackles a season ago, and he will no longer be with the team in 2022. There aren’t really any other big losses on defense, but that was a unit that struggled in 2021.
2022 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Team Preview
The Demon Deacons are going to score points, but stopping opponents is a bigger question. Wake Forest was great at creating turnovers last season, but the run defense really struggled at times.
Quarterback Sam Hartman should have another big season for the Demon Deacons, and they will look to win games on the offensive side of the ball. If Wake Forest isn’t able to create turnovers or pressure the quarterback, then it will be a long season on defense.
2022 Wake Forest Football Schedule
The 2022 non-conference schedule will provide the Demon Deacons with some unique challenges, but Wake Forest will be favored in at least three of the four games. The non-conference opponents are VMI, Vanderbilt, Liberty, and Army, and that should allow the Demon Deacons to win at least three games.
ACC play opens up with a game against Clemson and then a road trip to Florida State. Wake Forest does have North Carolina and Syracuse at home this year, which will help.
2022 Demon Deacons Regular Season Win Total Prediction
Clemson is going to bounce back this season, and it’s hard to see Wake Forest beating them. There are also some ACC teams that should be much improved this season, which will make things tougher on the Demon Deacons.
It feels like a 5-3 record in ACC play is coming for Wake Forest, which means it will all come down to the non-conference. The Demon Deacons might struggle against Liberty, and that loss is going to hurt.
Look for eight wins to be the mark for Wake Forest this season.
