2022 World Cup Group C Odds and Pick

World Cup Group C features teams from four different FIFA confederations: Argentina (CONMEBOL), Mexico (CONCACAF), Poland (UEFA) and Saudi Arabia (AFC). Who will come out on top?

Argentina is the bookmakers’ obvious favorite, while Mexico and Poland are expected to battle it out for the runner-up spot. Can Saudia Arabia make a mockery of the World Cup odds? Let’s take a closer look at each side.

Argentina World Cup Preview 2022

Odds to Win Group C: -200

Remarkably, Argentina heads to Qatar on a 35-game unbeaten streak – with their last loss coming all the way back in July 2019. Since then, the team has lifted the Copa America trophy and cemented its status as a genuine World Cup contender.

It goes without saying that all eyes will be on Lionel Messi in Qatar. The legendary forward bagged four goals and five assists in seven Copa America games last year and has been in irresistible form for PSG this season.

Argentina is more than just Messi, though. With superstars such as Lautaro Martinez, Paulo Dybala and Julian Alvarez in their ranks, the South American champions will fancy their chances of becoming world champions.

Mexico World Cup Preview 2022

Odds to Win Group C: +500

Mexico qualified for all of the previous seven World Cups, consistently reaching the tournament between 1994 and 2018. Impressively, they managed to qualify from their group on each and every occasion.

The Mexicans always seem to give a good account of themselves during the group stage. This year, they will aim to reach the round of 16 for the eighth successive tournament.

If Gerardo Martino’s men are serious about winning Group C, they will need Javier Hernandez to bring his A-game to Qatar. The country’s all-time leading scorer has netted 52 goals in 109 international games, emphasizing his importance to the team.

Poland World Cup Preview 2022

Odds to Win Group C: +500

Like Mexico, Poland will need their star striker to be at the top of his game in Qatar. I’m talking about Robert Lewandowski, of course. The Barcelona marksman has bagged 76 goals in 134 appearances for his country.

The Eagles managed to win just one of their final five Nations League games earlier this year, suffering three losses in the process. If they pick up where they left off in the Nations League, they will struggle at the World Cup.

Sadly, Poland’s World Cup record isn’t pretty. Although the Poles qualified for the tournament in 2002, 2006 and 2018, they failed to reach the knockout phase on every occasion.

Saudi Arabia World Cup Preview 2022

Odds to Win Group C: +2000

If Poland’s World Cup record isn’t pretty, then Saud Arabia’s is terrible. Indeed, the Green Falcons finished rock bottom of their group in 1998, 2002 and 2006 without winning a single game.

In 2018, Saudia Arabia claimed a shock victory over Egypt to avoid the humiliation another winless World Cup. However, even if they manage to claim another shock victory this year, they won’t finish atop Group C.

At the end of the day, Argentina is priced at -200 for a reason. Messi and co. are the strongest team in Group C by some distance, so I’m backing them to dominate the proceedings.
