Who will lead MLB in RBIs during the 2023 MLB regular season?
We’re going to analyze the odds and I’ll share my prediction for this market. MLB Spring Training is about to start on Friday and the regular season will start in a little over a month.
Aaron Judge and Pete Alonso were tied for first in RBIs (131) last season.
Jose Ramirez (126 RBIs) and Paul Goldschmidt (115 RBIs) weren’t too far off the pace last season. Nine other players had between 100 RBIs and 107 RBIs during the 2022 MLB regular season.
Judge and Alonso Are Favorites to Lead MLB in RBIs in 2023
Both Judge and Alonso set career-highs in RBIs with 131 last season. Judge’s previous best was 114 RBIs during the 2017 regular season and Alonso’s previous best was 120 RBIs in 2019.
The last player to lead MLB in RBIs in consecutive seasons was Nolan Arenado (2015 and 2016).
Judge is projected to bat 2nd in the Yankees batting order and that could hinder his RBI chances. I also wouldn’t expect Judge to smash 60+ HRs again this season, which will lead to less RBIs.
Alonso is the Mets’ cleanup hitter again this season. If Brandon Nimmo and Starling Marte can get on base more than they did in 2022, Alonso could exceed his 131 RBIs from last year.
2023 MLB RBI Leader Contenders
Nine players are priced between 10/1 and 20/1 odds, including Yordan Alvarez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Austin Riley, Rafael Devers, Mike Trout, Kyle Tucker, Matt Olson, Arenado and Jose Ramirez.
Ramirez (+2000) offers plenty of value considering he finished 3rd in RBIs last season. Ramirez is rarely injured and he’ll be batting 3rd for the Guardians in just about every game if healthy.
Guerrero Jr. (+1000) doesn’t offer much value, but he’s expected to bounce back after seeing his production dip last season. He hit 48 HRs and had 111 RBIs in 2021 compared to 32 HRs and 97 RBIs last season. He has the potential to explode.
Some Braves fans must have bet on Riley (+1200), as he shouldn’t be priced in the top five. Riley had 107 RBIs in 2021 and 93 RBIs in 2022, but I think Olson (+1500) offers better value in Atlanta.
Olson had 111 RBIs in 2021 and 103 RBIs last season in his first season with the Braves.
2023 MLB RBI Leader Predictions
My pick is Manny Machado (+2500) at a great price. Machado had 102 RBIs last season, a bit shy of his 106 RBIs in 2021, which was a career-high for the third baseman.
The Padres have an even better lineup this season. Once Fernando Tatis Jr. is back from suspension, they’ll be even better. Machado will be hitting in the middle of the batting order.
He’ll have plenty of opportunities for RBIs and he’s good for around 30 HRs per season. Injuries haven’t been a problem for Machado throughout most of his career either.
Best Bet: Machado (+2500)
