The 2023 NBA All-Star Weekend is here. There were three NBA games on Thursday night, but teams will now be off until next Thursday. The 2023 NBA All-Star Skills competitions are on Saturday at 8:00 PM ET.
The highlights for Saturday night are the Slam Dunk Contest and 3-Point Contest.
2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest Odds and Predictions
This year’s NBA Slam Dunk Contest doesn’t feature any superstars, but I’m expecting an exciting event, as each of the participants will want to win the contest and make a name for themselves.
Here are the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest betting lines:
Mac McClung (+125)
Jericho Sims (+240)
Kenyon Martin Jr. (+250)
Trey Murphy III (+330)
There isn’t a clear favorite in the dunk contest this year.
Sims might struggle to score enough points to advance, as centers don’t typically do well in this contest. I also don’t expect Murphy III to pull off the upset and defeat the rest of the field on Saturday night.
I expect McClung and Martin Jr. to battle it out in the final round.
Martin Jr. is a powerful and explosive dunker with the potential to get fans out of their seats. McClung will likely have the most creative dunks, though, which could help him score a perfect 50.
The most important thing for both dunkers will be to score on the first try.
I’m betting on Martin Jr., as he offers the most value. I’m also betting on Martin Jr. to finish as one of the two finalists at plus money. As long as Martin Jr. makes the final round, we’ll be guaranteed a small profit.
Best Bets: Martin Jr. to Win (+250) / Martin Jr. to Make Final Round (+110)
2023 NBA 3-Point Contest Odds and Predictions
There’s a lot more name recognition in the 2023 NBA 3-Point Contest. A pair of superstars (Jayson Tatum and Damian Lillard) are participating, plus there are numerous sharpshooters in the field.
Here are the odds for the 2023 NBA 3-Point Contest:
Buddy Hield (+425)
Damian Lillard (+425)
Jayson Tatum (+500)
Tyler Herro (+550)
Kevin Huerter (+550)
Tyrese Haliburton (+600)
Lauri Markkanen (+650)
Julius Randle (+700)
Hield is the deserving favorite. He has hit 42.6% of his 3-pointers this season, which is better than anyone else in the field. Hield also averages 3.8 3-pointers made per game, which ranks 5th in the NBA.
The only player in the field that averages more 3-pointers made per game is Lillard (4.2).
Tatum is averaging 3.3 3-pointers made per game on 35.7% shooting. Herro is averaging 3.0 3-pointers made per game on 36.9% shooting. Several of these guys can get hot and win this contest.
Markkanen is shooting 41.3% from beyond the arc, Halliburton is shooting 39.9% from beyond the arc and Huerter is shooting 39.2% from deep. This contest is really tough to predict.
Markkanen is an interesting underdog, but will he struggle with the volume? I’m going with Hield to win the 2023 NBA 3-Pointer Contest on Saturday night, as we’re getting a good price on the favorite.
Best Bet: Hield (+425)
