The NBA trade deadline is fast approaching and players are already on the move. We’re going to analyze potential NBA trade deadline targets that could be on a new team by the end of this week.
When Is the NBA Trade Deadline 2023?
The 2023 NBA trade deadline is on Thursday, February 9th 2023 at 3:00 PM ET.
Kyrie Irving Traded to the Mavericks
On Sunday (February 5th), Kyrie Irving was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
The Brooklyn Nets will receive Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, 2027 second round pick, 2029 first round pick (unprotected) and 2029 second round pick. Dallas are all-in on winning this year.
There has been one earlier trade. Rui Hachimura was traded to the Lakers, while the Wizards received Kendrick Nunn, conditional 2028 second round pick and 2029 second round pick.
2023 NBA Trade Deadline Rumors
There have been plenty of 2023 NBA trade deadline rumors circulating online. I’m not going to be able to touch on all of them, but I’m going to predict some of the potential targets that could be traded this week.
Kevin Durant or Ben Simmons
The Nets might not be done making moves. Simmons has little to no value, but the Nets need to try and move him to keep Durant happy. If not, Durant may request a trade sooner rather than later.
Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook
The Lakers want to move Westbrook and bring in some talent. Chris Paul is struggling in Phoenix this season and teaming up with his friend LeBron James might be just what both guys need.
Toronto Raptors Making Moves
The Raptors are struggling in the East this season and there have been rumors of nearly everyone on the roster being traded except for last year’s Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes.
Realistically, the Raptors will make a move or two, but Pascal Siakam and Fred Vanvleet are likely staying put. The two most likely players to be traded are Gary Trent Jr. and OG Anunoby.
Zach LaVine
Several teams have been inquiring about LaVine, but it looks like the Bulls want to keep him. It looks like they’ll keep this team together to make a run at the playoffs, but they could be sellers in the offseason.
Kyle Lowry
The Heat are willing to trade Lowry, but are there going to be any takers? The only team that makes some sense is the Clippers, as they need a PG and Lowry would join forces with Kawhi Leonard again.
Tim Hardaway Jr.
Hardaway Jr. is having a rough season in Dallas and the Mavs would love to move him for a forward, but it’s unlikely they’ll find anyone interested in giving up talent and taking on his contract.
Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley
The Jazz got Vanderbilt and Beasley in the Rudy Gobert trade during the offseason. Utah are willing to trade either player for a first round pick in the draft, but we’ll see what materializes this week.
There are plenty of more players that are 2023 NBA trade deadline targets. I expect there to be a lot of movement this week and it’ll be interesting to see if we get another blockbuster trade like Irving.
