We’re going to predict which player will win the 2023 NFL Super Bowl MVP Award.
This is always one of the most popular Super Bowl betting markets. There’s also the potential for a huge payout if anyone other than the two QBs (Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts) win the Super Bowl MVP Award this year.
Do QBs Always Win the Super Bowl MVP Award?
Quarterbacks are well represented on the Super Bowl MVP winners list, but they don’t win every year.
In the last 20 Super Bowls, a QB has been named the MVP 12 times. A QB has won the award in four of the last six years. A WR has won the MVP award twice in the last four years.
Cooper Kupp (8 receptions for 92 yards and 2 TDs) won the Super Bowl MVP Award last year.
Hurts and Mahomes Lead Super Bowl 57 MVP Odds
Hurts (+120 to win Super Bowl MVP) and Mahomes (+125 to win Super Bowl MVP) are the two favorites in the Super Bowl LVII MVP betting market, but is either QB worth betting on?
Mahomes won the Super Bowl LIV MVP Award after going 26/42 for 286 yards and 2 TDs.
Mahomes just went 29/43 for 326 yards and 2 TDs in the AFC Championship Game. If he can put up numbers like that against the Eagles #1 passing defense (171.0 PYPG), he’ll have a good shot at MVP.
Hurts hasn’t been forced to air it out much in the playoffs. Hurts threw for just 154 yards (2 TDs) against the NYG and 121 yards (0 TDs) against SF. He has had a rushing touchdown in both playoff games.
If Hurts can throw for 275+ yards and 2+ passing TDs, while adding 50+ rushing yards and 1+ rushing TD, he could easily win the Super Bowl MVP. However, he hasn’t produced like that in the playoffs yet.
Super Bowl LVII MVP Predictions
I’m avoiding the two QBs and want to go with a bet that can payout well. Other than the two QBs, the rest of the players are priced at 12/1 or higher. Could Travis Kelce be the first TE to win the award?
Kelce leads KC in targets (25), receptions (21), receiving yards (176) and receiving TDs (3) in the playoffs this season. If he can put up 100+ receiving and 2+ TDs, he could win Super Bowl MVP at +1200.
However, I’m betting on the Eagles to win Super Bowl 57 and therefore I’ll be targeting a Philly player.
My pick to win the Super Bowl LVII MVP Award is A.J. Brown.
Brown is capable of exploding for big games. For example, in week 8, Brown had 6 receptions for 156 yards and 3 TDs. If he can put up numbers like that, he’ll win the Super Bowl MVP Award.
Hurts is going to have to throw it more against the Chiefs defense. The Chiefs are worse against the pass (221.0 PYPG – 19th) than against the run (107.3 RYPG – 8th) this season.
Best Bet: A.J. Brown to Win Super Bowl MVP (+1200)
