We’re going to explain how to bet on CFL player props. The CFL can be a bit unpredictable and it’s not uncommon for games to play out the complete opposite of how they should play out based on the data.
CFL player props allow bettors to wager on the statistical performance of a single player. You don’t even need to worry about which team will win the game when betting on CFL player props.
CFL Touchdown Scorer Props
There are three ways to bet on CFL touchdown scorer props. You can bet on a player to score the first touchdown in a game, last touchdown in a game or to score a touchdown anytime during a game.
Here’s an example of all three CFL touchdown scorer markets:
Example: Jamal Morrow – First TD (+550) / Last TD (+550) / Anytime TD (-150)
As you can see, the odds for scoring the first TD or last TD are much better than scoring a TD anytime. It’s often advisable to focus on the anytime TD market, as there’s a lot less volatility.
Some sportsbooks also offer markets on a player scoring multiple TDs (2 TDs or 3 TDs).
In the CFL, QBs score a lot of rushing touchdowns near the goal line. Targeting QBs is a good idea and they often pay well to score anytime. You should also analyze the match-up. Is a RB going against the worst rushing defense? Is a WR going up against a weak pass defense? Target these types of spots.
CFL Passing Props Betting
Does a QB have a great match-up against a weak defense? Do you have a hunch that a QB will struggle in his next game? You’ll want to target CFL passing yards prop bets.
Example: Trevor Harris – Over 260.5 Passing Yards vs. Under 260.5 Passing Yards
The goal is to predict whether a QB will throw for over or under the posted passing yards total. If Harris throws for 261+ passing yards the over will cash, if he throws for 260 or fewer yards the under will win.
CFL Rushing Props Betting
With only three downs in the CFL, the run game often takes a back seat to passing. However, that also means the rushing yard totals for RBs are lower than they would typically be for an NFL RB.
Example: Brady Oliveira – Over 70.5 Rushing Yards vs. Under 70.5 Rushing Yards
In the CFL, some teams make the run game a priority whereas others don’t. It’s important to analyze the numbers before betting. Look at the game log for the RB and check the opposing team’s rushing defense.
CFL Receiving Props Betting
The only CFL receiving props are for receiving yards. In the NFL, you can bet on several other receiving props, such as receptions or receiving touchdowns, but bookies don’t offer that for the CFL yet.
Example: Dalton Schoen – Over 72.5 Receiving Yards vs. Under 72.5 Receiving Yards
There aren’t too many WRs in the CFL that are sure-handed or consistent on a weekly basis. It’s common for a WR to explode for 100+ receiving yards and then go for less than 25 yards the next game. Pick your spots wisely and analyze the match-ups. CFL defenses aren’t filled with talent and lack depth, so any injuries to starters will play a huge role.
