Week 5 of the college football season is here and we are diving deep into conference play this week with some monster matchups throughout the day on Saturday. Let’s hit on some of the best total bets of the week, including some in the biggest games of the week.
Ole Miss vs. Alabama Week 5 Total
Ole Miss vs. Alabama Betting Preview
Best Bet: OVER 79.5 Points
This is definitely one of the biggest games of the weekend and I am very interested to see how this one goes in a multitude of ways. Last time these two teams played, they scored a combined 111 points in one of the craziest games of the season and I am very curious to see if these teams can match this kind of efficiency and pace this year with less overall talent on these teams.
The key here is that Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin KNOW they must be ultra-aggressive in this spot and I expect them to attack this Alabama team in every given situation. What this means is that they will go for it on fourth down instead of trying to pin Alabama deep or kicking the field goal, meaning there should be more overall points. They should also play very aggressively on defense in an attempt to get takeaways, which would be optimal for short fields and big plays.
Louisville vs. Wake Forest Week 5 Total
Louisville vs. Wake Forest Betting Preview
Best Bet: OVER 61.5 Points
This is a very fun game and I would have pegged it closer to the upper 60’s personally. Wake Forest’s offense is very fun and very pass-heavy with a ton of RPO and things that will just give Louisville issues all day long. Wake lost a few defensive players last week and I think that Malik Cunningham’s legs will be able to give the Demon Deacons issues as well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 80s in this game at all.
Ohio State vs. Rutgers Week 5 Total
Ohio State vs. Rutgers Betting Preview
Best Bet: OVER 58.5 Points
This line doesn’t make much sense to me at all. I expect CJ Stroud to be healthy and play a bit better with a week off and I think the Ohio State offense is drastically undervalued in Vegas right now because their offensive execution has been a bit wonky in key down and distance and in the red zone. I’ll fade Chris Olave drops and Stroud overthrows long-term and bet on this Ohio State offense to score plenty of points.
Rutgers offense is unimpressive, but if they can’t move the ball at all, Ohio State will throw up 50 in this game. I expect them to move the ball on this very young defense that has shown a few signs of improvement moving to a lot of the younger, more talented players on defense, but those kids didn’t start for a reason. There will be confusion and Rutgers showed in this game last year they are willing to embrace chaos and be aggressive here.
NCAA Football Over/Under Picks
Michigan vs. Wisconsin Week 5 Total
Michigan vs. Wisconsin Betting Preview
Best Bet: UNDER 43.5 Points
This game could be incredibly ugly. Michigan’s defense has been sound all season and Wisconsin just isn’t dynamic anywhere. The way this game hits the over is similar to the ND game last week where turnovers create points. Michigan’s offense looked very bad against Rutgers last week, especially in the second half and Wisconsin has a bunch of experience in big games this season.
Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M Week 5 Total
Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M Betting Preview
Best Bet: UNDER 46 Points
Do we trust either of these teams to score? Texas A&M’s offense has been horrible for a decade and now with the less talented backup QB, they have scored 2 TDs in 2 games against Power 5 teams. Mississippi State isn’t great in the red zone, even against bad defenses and now they face an elite unit in Texas A&M who knows they are fighting for their life from here on out.
