Heading into the final days of 2020, there is more than enough action on the board at online sportsbooks to ring in the New Year. Friday’s action alone in college football fills the New Year’s Day betting board.

(#11) Georgia Bulldogs vs. (#6) Cincinnati Bearcats Preview
Best Bet: OVER 50
Georgia had high hopes for a national title run in 2020 but losses to both Alabama and Florida pushed the Bulldogs to third in the SEC. While I do question their motivation coming into this game, I am not questioning their ability to put points on the board. Georgia averaged 41.7 points over its past three games.
The Bearcats made a strong case for one of the four playoff spots at 9-0 straight-up. However, the Mid Majors still fail to get the respect that they deserve. This should add quite a bit of motivation to finish the season undefeated. I like Cincinnati SU as a seven-point underdog. However, I like to total going OVER 50 points better.
The total has gone OVER in five of Georgia’s last six games as a favorite. It has gone OVER in four of the Bearcats’ last five games overall.

Auburn Tigers vs. (#15) Northwestern Wildcats Preview
Best Bet: Northwestern -3½
This game is another case of an overrated SEC team playing in a bigger bowl game than it deserves. Auburn fell out of the national rankings at 6-4 SU while going 5-5 against the spread. The Tigers gave up a combined 73 points in lopsided losses to Alabama on the road and to Texas A&M at home.
Northwestern only played eight games this season but they won six of those contests while going 6-1-1 ATS. The Wildcats kept things closer than the spread in a 22-10 loss to Ohio State in the Big Ten Title game. I do not see them having any trouble covering the 3 ½-point spread in this game as favorites.
Auburn is 1-4 ATS in its last five games against the Big Ten. The Wildcats are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games as favorites.

(#4) Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. (#1) Alabama Crimson Tide Preview
Best Bet: Alabama -20
Notre Dame was the best of the rest as the No. 4 seed in the playoffs. The current gap between the Irish and the best team in the country is even wider than the betting spread might suggest. Their lone loss was against Clemson in the ACC title game but there were a few unimpressive victories in a 5-6 record ATS.
Alabama has been on a mission this entire season coming off its rare absence from last year’s playoff field. Not only have the Tide run the table in the SEC with 11 SU wins, they have done it in impressive fashion at 8-3 ATS. They closed as double-digit favorites in 10 of 11 contests. Notre Dame has lost eight of its last nine January games SU. Alabama is 7-1 ATS in its last eight games as the favorite.

(#3) Ohio State Buckeyes vs. (#2) Clemson Tigers
Best Bet: OVER 66½
Ohio State is in the four-team playoff based more on reputation than merit. At 6-0 SU (3-3 ATS), the Buckeyes have yet to be really tested in a much weaker Big Ten this year. The one thing they should be able to do against Clemson is put some points on the board.
The Tigers’ were 10-1 SU with an earlier loss to Notre Dame. At 5-6 ATS, they were double-digit favorites in every game. While Clemson should cover the 7½ points against Ohio State, this is another matchup were betting the OVER on the total is the top value play.
The total has gone OVER in four of Ohio State’s last six games closing as an underdog. It has gone OVER in six of Clemson’s last seven games played in January.
