The top five NHL handicappers have been keeping up a consistent record, with another $2,000 in profit this week. They did, however, manage to boost the overall win rate by a few points, thanks to a few 100% records from Sports Hub and R&R Totals.
Check out the full breakdown for the past week in the NHL betting world, and see where we’ll be betting this upcoming week.
Top NHL Handicappers Last Week
Last week we saw Mr. MacGyver back at it again, while the other top handicappers sat back and enjoyed the show. He really carried the top five with his net profit. Altogether, the top five made $2,197 with a 38-14 record. The combined average win rate was 73.1%, which is better than the previous week’s 67.3%.

Not many new faces this week. R&R Totals has been up here once before, and this week they only placed 3 wagers, so not super exciting stuff.
MacGyver Uses Spreads to Cover ML Losses
Sometimes, we see handicappers in the top seed who win every wager they place, regardless of whether it’s a moneyline, total, or spread. Unfortunately, MacGyver isn’t so lucky.
Last week, he placed 31 total bets (12 spreads, 16 moneylines, 3 totals). His win rate for spread wagers is 83.4%, and he played those wagers pretty safe, betting within 1.5 points in either direction for every wager.

He won $888 from his spreads, but he lost almost $400 from his moneyline wagers. Where did his moneylines go wrong?
Well, I think he just got unlucky. He wagered the favorite on 12 games, and lost 5 of them (as well as the 4 +Dogs wagers he placed). The Jets got beat by the Canucks, the Senators stomped the Maple Leafs. It was just a poor week for the favorites.
I think MacGyver is a good handicapper, but I think his ability to pick teams that will cover the spread is much stronger than his analysis of NHL matchups.
Where Our Money’s at This Week
This week, we’ll be keeping an eye on the Capitals as they face the Flyers and the Panthers. Alex Ovechkin is attempting to beat the NHL’s all-time goal-scoring record, set by Wayne Gretzky at 894 goals.
The GR8 Chase is underway, with fans supporting Ovechkin in his attempts to topple the record. As of writing this, he’s 8 goals away from the record. He did not score in the 4-1 victory over the Red Wings on Tuesday, but he’s got two more chances to keep climbing the ladder this week.
With his record so close, you can expect to see more play time out of him, as well as more passes as he attempts to score more goals. The Capitals might sacrifice better shots in favor of Ovechkin’s position to help him reach the goal, so be sure to watch out for intense defense from the Flyers and Panthers.
