This past week in the NHL handicapper landscape, we saw some newcomers to the leaderboard, as well as a rise of computer picks models. Computer and AI picks tend to falter a bit when it comes to volume, but there are three computer picks platforms in the top 5 list.
Keep reading to see who topped the charts and who fell off betting on the NHL last week.
Hoffman Course Corrects and Goes 6-1 Last Week
Jacob Hoffman is a newcomer to the top five NHL leaderboard, but he certainly earned his spot this past week. He went 6-1, winning $517 overall.
The majority of his wagers were moneyline bets, with an even split between favorites and underdogs. He also wagered totals, and his sole loss was a first-period spread for the Dallas Stars when they faced the San Jose Sharks.
Hoffman’s record has certainly been looking up. In the past 30 days, he went 17-5, but in the past 60 days, he’s sitting at 26-21. Mid-October, he faced a brutal 9-wager losing streak.
But, he’s since pulled himself up by his bootstraps and maintained a better record. I’m particularly interested in his moneyline picks moving forward. Most top-five handicappers stick to spreads and totals, as they hold a bit less risk. But moneylines seem to be working for Hoffman.
A Good Week for Computer Picks
This week, our top five handicappers went 28-12, which isn’t terrible. It’s a far cry from the 27-9 record we saw our cappers take last week, but it’s still a 70% win rate overall.
We see a lot of computer picks models in the leaderboard, including Sports Hub Insider, Sas Insider, and Sports Central. While not as accurate as Hoffman, they still managed to win quite a bit of money, making it to the top five.
In total, our top five cappers won $1,883 betting on the NHL last week.
Calvin King Falters After Making Top 5
Last time, we saw Calvin King and Carmine Bianco top the charts with 100% win rates, even though they only placed a few wagers.
This time around, Bianco placed 7th overall with a 3-1 record, while King ended up 26th on the list, 2-1.
Going 2-1 isn’t terrible, but King only won $56, which puts him below other cappers in terms of winnings.
He wagered 3 moneylines as favorites and won the first two, so that’s $200 profit. Then, on the 3rd one, he lost $144, bringing his total to $56. And what an unfortunate loss, too. Most other cappers who wagered on the Sabres and Kings game also bet the Kings moneyline, and they too took Ls.
What Are We Watching This Week?
This Black Friday, we’re going to check out the Jets and Knights game. The Winnipeg Jets are still dominating the Western Conference (18-4), but the Knights are ranked third (14-8), so it’s bound to be an action-packed game. Can the Knights knock the Jets down a peg?
Along a similar vein, Saturday we see the Devils take on the Capitals. Like the Jets, the Devils are sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference (15-8), while the Capitals are third overall (14-7). It could be anyone’s game there, but we’ll know more as odds are released the day before.
