The penultimate weekend of the MLB season is upon us. With most of the playoff spots already locked up, teams are playing to either prepare for the playoffs or to prepare to head home for the offseason.
Here’s a look at some players who may hit homers Saturday.
Jose Ramirez to Hit a HR(+400)
The Cleveland Guardians made a remarkable surge in the second half of the schedule to win the American League Central Division title. Third baseman Jose Ramirez played a big part in the offense. Ramirez is 22nd in the league with 29 home runs and has driven in 122 RBIs this season.
Royals pitcher Kris Bubic will be starting Saturday. Bubic is 2-13 with a 5.81 ERA and has allowed 18 home runs in 124 innings pitched. Ramirez has hit six home runs off left-handed pitchers in 152 at-bats this season.
Nolan Arenado to Hit a HR (+400)
Pirates right-handed pitcher Luis Ortiz is a prospect the organization is excited about. He’s thrown 15.1 innings this season and hasn’t allowed a home run. He is sporting a 1.17 ERA. However, Ortiz is going to be facing a St. Louis lineup with plenty of power on the road Saturday.
Nolan Arenado has made a big impact on the Cardinals this season. He’s batting .293 with 30 home runs and 101 RBIs. Arenado has recorded four hits in St. Louis’ last six games. Arenado will get plenty of opportunities to hit the ball hard against Ortiz and a suspect Pirates bullpen.
Pete Alonso to Hit a HR (+390)
The Braves put a dent in the Mets’ confidence in game 1, homering twice off Jacob deGrom to score a big win in game 1 of a series that could decide the NL East crown. Alonso, a star infielder for New York, has had a fantastic series at the plate. He has smashed 40 home runs and leads the league with 131 RBIs.
In September, Alonso’s power hasn’t faded. He has hit nine home runs so far this month, including five in his past nine games. While Alonso will have a tough match-up with Max Scherzer, playing under pressure may help Alonso, who saw his team lose game 1 of the important series.
Jose Altuve to Hit a HR(+480)
Altuve, an Astros infielder, is still showing plenty of pop in his early 30s. He has hit 28 home runs, but has only driven in 57 runs this season. During September, Altuve has shown plenty of power. He has hit ten extra-base hits, including six home runs.
What is nice for Altuve is neither team in Saturday’s match-up is under much stress. The Astros have long since clinched the AL West crown and already locked up the top record in the American League.
Tampa Bay could overtake Seattle for the second wild-card spot, as the Rays are a half-game behind them, but it may be better to stay put.
If the season ended today, the Rays would play the Cleveland Guardians in the first round. Tampa Bay is starting ace pitcher Shane McClanahan Saturday.
