The 2022 Major League Baseball season is in full swing, pun intended, after an offseason lockout delayed the usual start date.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants are already off to the races and renewing their rivalry from last season, while no team has been worse than the Cincinnati Reds thus far.
Here are the best underdogs to bet on in Tuesday’s loaded slate of action.
San Francisco Giants vs. New York Mets
Giants vs. Mets Betting Preview
Best Bet: Giants ML (+109) for Game 1
The first meeting in a double-header is the perfect opportunity for bettors to find value on a team with positive odds; the San Francisco Giants have won five straight games, holding opponents and two or fewer runs in every outing.
These wins against the San Diego Padres and Cleveland Guardians will give them a ton of momentum heading onto the road against a Mets squad that has impressively started its campaign with a 7-3 record.
Alex Cobb will get the starting nod for the visiting Giants, looking to build off of his lone start of the season in which he gave up two earned runs in five innings in a 13-2 win against the Padres.
His counterpart on the mound will be New York’s Tylor McGill, who is yet to allow a run in 10.1 innings of duty; however, the 26-year-old dished a 4.52 ERA in 2021, his first as a professional, and will regress to the mean at some point.
Chicago White Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians
White Sox vs. Guardians Betting Preview
Best Bet: White Sox ML (+125)
The Chicago White Sox will hit the road to take on the Cleveland Guardians Tuesday evening; Cleveland is yet to win a game in its home stadium, while Chicago is 2-1 and won its last two road outings.
The White Sox are much more of a defensive-minded outfit, while the Guardians have scored the seventh-most runs in the league; lucky for fans of the former, their team is allowing just over 3.5 runs per game, although they did allow nine runs in their last game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Cleveland has an advantage with the oddsmakers because of the pitching matchup between Dallas Keuchel and Shane Bieber, butThe Marlins have been hitting the ball fairly well recently, but at the same time, St. Louis looked decent at the plate against a strong Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff. The Marlins have been hitting the ball fairly well recently, but at the same time, St. Louis looked decent at the plate against a strong Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff. this is not as lopsided as name recognition may make it sound; Keuchel did, after all, dish a 1.99 ERA in 2020 and has three seasons under 3.00, even if he did not bring his best stuff in 2021.
Bieber threw a 3.17 ERA last season and has not been awarded a decision in two starts this season, so bettors can count on the White Sox’s bullpen pulling them through in the end.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins
Cardinals vs. Marlins Betting PreviewThe Marlins have been hitting the ball fairly well recently, but at the same time, St. Louis looked decent at the plate against a strong Milwaukee Brewers pitching staff.
Best Bet: Cardinals ML (-105)
The St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins actually have matching odds in their impending matchup at the time of publication— that counts as an upset, right?
Anyway, the Cards have the ageless wonder, Adam Wainwright, on the bump, whereas Miami will trot out Jesus Luzardo, whose last two seasons have culminated with ERA’s over 6.00.
