Monday Night Football: Betting the Game and Team Totals

A pair of NFC East rivals will meet up on Monday Night Football to wrap up the Week 9 NFL schedule in the 2020 NFL season. The winless New York Jets will host the 2-5 New England Patriots in what could be an interesting game.

The Patriots have now lost four straight games, and their long playoff streak is in jeopardy. New England is a seven-point road favorite on Monday night, and this could be the game to turn things around.

The Jets have been a complete mess all season long, having been outscored by 144 total points through eight games. New York is the clear frontrunner to land the No. 1 overall NFL draft pick, which could land them Trevor Lawrence.

Even though the Patriots have struggled at times this season, they are still the much better team in this matchup. This is a big rivalry game for each team, and there is no doubt that the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick will be ready for the Jets.

New England just needs to find some more offense, and it needs quarterback Cam Newton to throw the ball with more accuracy. Newton has been able to make plays with his legs, but the Patriots are averaging just 192 passing yards per game.

The Patriots still feature a tough defense that is yielding less than 24 points per game. That unit won’t be tested much in this game as the Jets really struggle to score points.

New York is averaging just 11.8 points per game, which is by far the lowest in the NFL. The Jets are averaging more than 100 rushing yards per game, but their passing attack is last in the league.

The defense has managed to play well at times, but that unit continues to be put in a bad position. It will take offense to win this game, and that’s just something that the Jets can’t do.

Both teams have really struggled this season, but the best bet in this game is taking the New England Patriots -7.0 over the New York Jets.

New England Patriots Team Total Bet: Over 24.5 Points

The New England Patriots are averaging less than 20 points per game this season, so this point total looks a bit high at first glance. New England has not scored at least 25 points since their third game of the season, but the Patriots did score 21 points in a Week 8 loss.

This just feels like a game that the Patriots are going to be able to put some things together on offense and get back to being themselves. Newton is going to break out, and the Patriots will score a ton of points in this one.

New England is going to cruise to victory in this game, and the Patriots score at least 25 points.

New York Jets Team Total: Under 16.5 Points

As mentioned earlier, the Jets are averaging less than 12 points per game this season, and that number has actually gone down in recent weeks. It’s hard to put into words just how much the Jets struggle to score points.

New York has not scored more than 10 points in each of their last four games, and now they are set to take on a really good defensive team. Belichick will have the Patriots blitzing all game long, and that will be a problem for quarterback Sam Darnold, assuming he plays.

The Jets will be behind early, and that will force them to try and speed things up on offense. Normally, that would mean the potential for more points, but in the Jets’ case, it simply won’t matter.

This one almost feels too easy as the Jets will go under the 16.5 total points.
