The NBA season is now underway following the Christmas opening week games. That means it’s time to dive into NBA Division Futures! This article takes a look at the Atlantic Division which includes The Brooklyn Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics, Toronto Raptors, and New York Knicks.
You can easily call this one of the most competitive divisions in the NBA. Four of the five teams are expected to win forty-plus games this season.
Where to Bet on the NBA in 2021
As you might expect, following last season and the way the Nets worked the short NBA off-season, they are the favorites to win the Atlantic. The nets come in at -140 while their fellow New York area team, the New York Knicks, come in as mile-long-long-shot at +25000!
Here’s how the futures odds for the NBA Atlantic Division breakdown according to Betonline.
Brooklyn Nets -140
Philadelphia 76ers +400
Boston Celtics +450
Toronto Raptors +600
New York Knicks +25000
Brooklyn Nets Team Preview
The Brooklyn Nets are expected to win over 40 games in this slightly-shortened 2021 season. That puts them at the top of the Atlantic Division. The Nets have a great lineup with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Tyler Johnson, and DeAndre Jordan to name a few. The bad news is that Spencer Dinwiddie suffered a partially torn ACL in a game against Memphis. That puts Dinwiddie out for the season with Nicolas Claxton hopefully returning by mid-January.
Long-term: Durant and Irving will need plenty of help off the bench. Look for them to go fast-paced as often as possible. The Nets are stronger this season but still may have some lag time as the new additions begin to gel.
Over 44½ Wins -140
Under 44½ Wins +110
Philadelphia 76ers Team Preview
The 76ers hope to improve on last season where they finished sixth in the East behind the Miami Heat. The load may fall upon the shoulders of Seth Curry with Joel Embiid hopefully eating space up under the net. The problem is Embiid is nursing a nagging back injury and is listed as a “game-time decision” currently. Dwight Howard should be able to hold down that position as needed.
Long-term: Seth Curry is the main part of this lineup as you probably have already guessed. For the 76ers to move out of the Atlantic and compete for the East he’ll have to stay healthy and get tons of help.
Over 44½ Wins -115
Under 44½ Wins -115
Boston Celtics Team Preview
The Celtics finished the 2020 shortened season at 48 and 24 behind the Heat and just seemed as if they were one or two playmakers away from moving up the ladder. That can be said again for the 2021 season. They are strong with Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum averaging over 25 points a game. Some additional points could be brought in by Marcus Smart, and Jeff Teague but they both are near ten points per game.
Long-term: Brown and Tatum need to keep scoring and stay healthy. The Celtics need additional scoring and the Kemba Walker drama train needs to end.
Under 44½ Wins -130
Over 44½ Wins +100
Toronto Raptors Team Preview
Can the Raptors meet and beat their performance last season? Probably not but they can come close! What is clear is that Toronto was amazing last year! However, they lost some key players during the off- season. This can be considered a rebuilding year but it should not be too painful.
Long-term: Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, Chris Boucher, Kyle Lowry are all averaging in the high-teens so far this season. Adding some additional points – and defense – will be a key in performing on last season’s level.
Under 42½ Wins -130
Over 42½ Wins +100
New York Knicks Team Preview
The Knicks are hoping for a season of improvement! They may not challenge for the top spot but they are worth looking at if considering total wins. In the first three games of the season, they lost two and put one in the win column. The great news is that they can score! Julius Randle is averaging 23.7 points per game with Alec Burks at 20.7. They also have several players shooting in the teens.
Long-term: The Knicks need more help on the scoring end of the court but beefing up on defense will be the goal of the next off-season and any trades.
Over 22½ Wins -115
Under 22½ Wins -115
