NCAA Football: 2020 ACC Championship Futures Picks

The dust has settled somewhat since the ACC announced it would play football this season using a modified schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting CFB. The ACC, SEC, and Big-12 are the three “Big-Five” conferences playing along with several other conferences such as the AAC, Conference USA, and the Sunbelt.

The Big Ten and Pac-12, along with most FCS conferences, have postponed their seasons while hoping to play later in the year or next Spring. The loss of two Big-Five conferences and the FCS teams forced the remaining conferences to set a modified schedule limiting the number of games. Check out the SEC’s updated football schedule and futures odds.

Now it’s time to see if any of that changed how oddsmakers felt the ACC Championship would pan out. As it turns out… not much – if you thought Clemson would grab the top spot.

Tigers and the Irish to Fight it Out in ACC Play?

The Clemson Tigers look to be the favorite with a surprise team taking the second spot. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish is independent when it comes to football but is an ACC school with many other sports. With the new pandemic schedule, the ACC placed the Fighting Irish into the mix as an ACC football team.

The idea of Notre Dame becoming a full member of the ACC after this season is another topic. The main point in that conversation would be revenue. The ACC has a pretty good TV deal but so does the Irish.

But when it comes to winning the conference this season with a limited schedule the Clemson Tigers (- 350) and the Irish (+450) are the favorites to win outright according to Betonline.ag.

Four ACC Teams Could Shake Things Up!

One of the biggest things to notice is the lack of separation between North Carolina at +1000 and Virginia Tech at +2000. Florida State is also at +2000 and the Miami Hurricanes are coming in at +1200. That’s a bundle of four teams poised to make a run at the ACC Championship.

The numbers then begin to stretch out with Pittsburg at +3300 to Syracuse at +10000 and Georgia Tech at +25000. Those are two storied programs that take a hit without the availability of several non- conference opponents.

Louisville Cardinals – Are They the Sleeper Pick?

One team that I think gets lost in the conversation are the Louisville Cardinals. The Cardinals are +4000 due to a few question marks on returning players following a successful season after 2018 where they went 2 and 10. Last year they bounced back for an eight-win season and a Music City Bowl victory.
