We got to see some great performances last week from our NHL handicappers, and are happy to introduce some new faces to the leaderboard.
We also had some crippling losses from previous champs, so keep reading to find out who took a nose-dive last week.
Bianco and King at 100% Win Rate Last Week
Last week we had two handicappers finish off with flawless records. Carmine Bianco ended the week 4-0, while Calvin King ended 3-0.
As has been the trend, they didn’t wager volume, instead they chose a few specific games to bet on and stuck to their guns.
Carmine Bianco had a good selection of wagers last week, with totals, a spread, and a moneyline. He won the most off his Flyers moneyline at +155, but what interests me is his first period wagers.
As you can see, he wagered totals for the 1P of two games last week, both of which were heavily favored. I always shy away from period lines, simply because a team can have a rocky start, but bring it back later. For that reason, whole-game totals are a bit safer, but Bianco managed to make these totals work for him.
King, on the other hand, wagered only moneylines. He saw success with an underdog wager on the Blue Jackets vs. the Penguins. A few other handicappers played it safe with that game, wagering the over 6.5 total line with -120 odds. They won their wagers as the game ended with 8 total points, but King made more money than they did with his moneyline.
The nice thing about both Carmine Bianco and Calvin King is that they’re both Starter Plus-tier handicappers. This means you can get access to their picks for just $9 per month, our lowest membership tier. Our Top Cappers Are On the Up-and-Up
We have a whole new roster of names on in the top 5 for last week! It’s always great to see new faces (and picks).
In total, our top five cappers for the NHL last week went 27-9, which equates to a 75% win percentage. That’s a whopping 5% higher than last week, so if you were watching the top cappers this week, hopefully you made some money. They certainly did, with a combined profit of $2,035.
Deluca Needs to Get His Act Together
Even though we’re only a few weeks into the NHL season, we’ve already had some drama here at ScoresandStats.com. Mario Deluca, who made the top 5 list twice so far, is showing some erratic behavior.
Two weeks ago he was 5-1, but last week? He went 1-3 and lost about $250. Yeah, yikes.
So far this season, Deluca’s record is 19-14, with $411 in profit. His great winning streaks are punctuated with periods of pretty bad losses, which isn’t good for his overall performance. I’d much rather see a consistent record with a few wins and one or two losses per week instead of these wild mood swings.
Games We’re Watching This Week
The Western Conference has remained pretty steady throughout the season so far, with the Winnipeg Jets dominating 16-3. The Jets play the Predators on Saturday, and it should be a fairly decided game, as the Predators are 6-13. Betting the Jets moneyline won’t yield much, but they’ll probably cover the spread quite easily.
In the Eastern Conference, we’ve seen some shake-ups. The Panthers were on a hot streak earlier in the season, but have since fallen from their pedestal. The Capitals are taking the lead now, and play the Avalanche on Thursday. That game should be a bit more interesting than the Jets vs Predators, but we’re going to be watching the odds a few hours before the game to see what the consensus is.
