NFL Division Finishing Position Props: Best Bets to Finish in Last Place

No NFL team wants to finish last in its division, but one team has to be the doormat in each division. If the New York Jets finish last in the AFC East, which they have done in four of the last five seasons, it would not be a surprise. That’s probably why the Jets are given -300 odds to end up fourth in the AFC East this season.

There are actually a few bets in this category more enticing than the Jets. Here are the NFL best bets to finish in last place in their division.

NFL Teams to Finish Last in Their Division Picks

ARIZONA CARDINALS (+110) to finish last in the NFC West

The NFC West is absolutely loaded. All four teams, including the Arizona Cardinals could end up with winning records, but one team has to finish last. The Rams, 49ers, and Seahawks are all ranked in the top ten in the latest ESPN FPI (Football Power Index).

The Seahawks won the division last year and have recorded double-digit wins in eight of the last nine seasons. There are two Super Bowl trips for Seattle in that time span. The 49ers and Rams have both been to the Super Bowl in the last three seasons.

As good as Arizona can be, they are the worst of the four teams in the NFC West and they are the best bet at +110 to finish last in the division.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (+125) to finish last in the NFC East

Last year, the NFC East was the worst division in football. The winner, Washington, won the division with a losing record (7-9). The Philadelphia Eagles finished last at 4-11-1. Head coach Doug Pederson was fired and now the Eagles are working with a rookie head coach in Nick Sirianni.

The Dallas Cowboys will likely be much improved over last year with the return of QB Dak Prescott. The Cowboys quarterback missed most of the season with an ankle injury. RB Ezekiel Elliott also had his worst season as a pro and the Dallas defense was atrocious. New defensive coordinator Dan Quinn should change that.

The Giants went 6-10 last year and should be better in head coach Joe Judge’s second season. New York also gets RB Saquon Barkley back from a season-ending injury. Washington will have one of the NFL’s best defenses in 2021.

That leaves the Eagles with their brand new coach and struggling offense. The Eagles are the worst team in the NFC West in 2021 leaving them as the best bet to finish last at +125.

DENVER BRONCOS +400 to finish last in the AFC West

By default, the worst team in the AFC West in 2021 will be the Denver Broncos. You have perennial champion Kansas City, a team that has won the last five straight division crowns. There is Las Vegas under Jon Gruden, who is at least good enough for a 9-8 or 8-9 campaign.

The Chargers are expected to be very good even with a new head coach. That coach, Brandon Staley, led the NFL’s best defense last season when he was the defensive coordinator for the Rams. A returning Joey Bosa, WR Keenan Allen, and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert give the Chargers an excellent opportunity at a playoff berth.

That leaves Denver. The Broncos have Drew Lock at quarterback and that experiment could very well end in 2021. The defense was supposed to be the strength of the team in 2020, but underperformed. The Broncos finished 21 st in total defense (367.9 ypg) and 25th in scoring defense (27.9 ppg).

Even if Denver is better on defense in 2021, the offense has a long way to go. Of the four AFC West teams, the Broncos have the least talented roster making them the best bet to finish last in the division at +400.
