Okay, this week we’re going to dedicate things to the tight ends, not to mention the quarterback who kind of plays like a tight end.
Yeah, it’s Cam Newton’s time right now, and although it may not last too long, the Panthers figured they might as well give it a shot and see if they could come up with some magic as long as they are still alive in the NFC playoff race. Actually, they’re better than that – at 5-5 they are right in the thick of things.
And speaking of the “thick of things,” Newton has never been the time to shy away from taking matters into his own hands, which explains why we’re willing to give him a whirl this week.
Actually, we wanted to use Dan Arnold, the tight end for Jacksonville, who’s been a quiet standout, but the Jags are going against the San Francisco 49ers, who are arguably the NFL’s best defense against tight ends. So we’re holding off; perhaps you’ll see him in this space next week.
Tyler Conklin Props Picks for Week 11
Time: Sunday, November 21 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +240 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Conklin made three catches for the Vikings last week, and two of them went for touchdowns. Those TD’s totaled only one in five yards, but the point is, total yards are not with this prop is about. It’s about getting in the end zone, and it is clear but he is going to be someone Kirk Cousins trusts as Minnesota gets down near the goal line.
Adam Trautman Props Picks Week 11
Time: Sunday, November 21 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +400 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Trautman has a big opportunity here, and we will tell you why. Not only does he, as the Saints top tight end option, loom as a viable target for short-range, low-risk passing, whether that’s from Trevor Simeon or Taysom Hill, he is also going up against a defense that is notoriously weak when it comes to defending people at his position. The Eagles allow the most receptions, yards and touchdowns to tight ends, permitting a completion rate of 83%. Over the last couple of weeks, Trautman has been used more, with nine receptions. So this is a really good price for him to score his first touchdown of the season.
Jonathan Taylor Props Picks for Week 11
Time: Sunday, November 21 -1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: -110 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Taylor simply has to be included. It’s likely that he’ll take over the league in rushing lead this week, as he is in a dead heat with the injured Derrick Henry. And he is also on a serious roll, with seven consecutive games where he has had at least 100 yards from scrimmage (rushing + receiving) and a touchdown. Yes, we realize that Buffalo has yielded the fewest points per drive of any team in the NFL, but they are better against the pass then they are against the run. And although they may slow Taylor a bit, they won’t stop him.
C.J. Uzomah Props Picks for Week 11
Time: Sunday, November 21 – 4:05 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +260 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
If the Raiders drop back in coverage to prevent explosive plays, as they usually do, they will most likely leave some areas of the field open, and those happen to be the areas where Cincinnati’s tight end can do some business. Uzomah has averaged 12.5 yards per reception, and it is not insignificant that he has scored five touchdowns. Las Vegas has allowed the second-most yards to the tight end position, as well as six touchdown catches. So we’ve got a play here.
Cam Newton Props Picks for Week 11
Time: Sunday, November 21 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +120 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
You know, we really don’t even want to speculate as to how effective Cam Newton is going to be throwing the football, even though he has an opponent in front of him that has allowed more passing yards than all but two teams. We did like the look of those goal-line plays that included him last week, and you have to figure that that will be something Matt Rhule and Joe Brady dial up if and when the Panthers get in that territory again.
Plus, if you noticed Newton when he was last seen as a starter with the Patriots, he was trying to do about as much with his legs than he was with his arm. Because, I guess, he had to. We can’t imagine he’s entirely familiar with the playbook just yet, and pulling it down is sometimes the simplest solution. With a guy like that, we like the idea of him having a ball in his hands on every play.
Again, while it lasts.
