First, if you don’t mind a question that may sound facetious…
Just who the hell is playing and who isn’t?
Suddenly, the NFL has been hit with a wave of positive coronavirus tests that is nothing short of scary, and has caused the postponement of three games, and maybe more (the night is young, as they say).
So figuring out who is taking the field may be just as challenging as who will be scoring touchdowns.
Tony Pollard Props Picks for Week 15
Time: Sunday, December 19 @ 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +220 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Since Mike Glennon is slated to start again at quarterback for the Giants, we certainly can’t nominate anyone from their side.
But Pollard could be the guy who gets a lot more looks as we proceed. He is averaging 5.6 yards a carry, and they’re okay with giving him more of the load back there as Ezekiel Elliott , while having had his moments, isn’t the same guy he was when he came into the league (less than 4 ypc in each of his last five games).
Pollard is also the kind of guy who might be able to catch the ball and take it a long way, with his speed alone. He has 31 receptions on 35 targets, which is 88.6%. So that’s pretty good. They’re not afraid to split him out wide. And if you watched the Thanksgiving game against the Raiders, you saw what he is capable of in the return game.
James Robinson Props Picks for Week 15
Time: Sunday, December 19 @ 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +105 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Yes, I know we could be reaching, with an offense that has scored all of 55 points over the last six weeks, but this weekend’s game against Houston may turn out to be a bit of an “F-U” to Urban Meyer, and to call a play for Robinson to get into the end zone may be a big part of it. He fumbled in back-to-back games, and Meyer sat him down, which started a firestorm because he claimed it was injury-related, but inexplicably put him in later, and then there was the “cringe moment” when Robinson couldn’t understand why Meyer wasn’t using him. Well, you know that story – another nail in the coffin, so to speak.
Robinson has averaged 4.8 yards a carry this season, and that is a year after the undrafted free agent out of Illinois State topped 1000 yards as a rookie. In the last two games he carried the ball 14 times for 28 yards. It’s as if Meyer, playing the role of the first grade teacher, made him go kneel in the corner with a dunce cap on after those fumbles. So perhaps Darrell Bevell, the interim coach who has asserted that Robinson is solidly the starter, gives him a chance at paydirt.
Antoine Wesley Props Picks for Week 15
Time: Sunday, December 19 @ 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +750 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Wesley only has eight receptions on the season. And is certainly not going to be Kyler Murray’s #1 receiving option in this game. But DeAndre Hopkins is not going to be around the rest of the regular season because he’s having knee surgery, and no, silly wabbit, Larry Fitzgerald won;t be coming back.
In the three games Hopkins has missed previously with an injury, Wesley stepped in for him and played more than 75% of the snaps. Coach Kliff Kingsbury has confidence in him, as Wesley played under him at Texas Tech.
And with the Detroit secondary so depleted, not just with injuries but with seven guys on the COVID list, depth is a huge issue, and so it stands to reason that covering the third and fourth wide receivers is going to be an issue as well. So this may hit at a decent price.
Pat Freiermuth Props Picks for Week 15
Time: Sunday, December 19 @ 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +190 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Freiermuth has been targeted 17 times in the red zone and scored seven touchdowns. It’s a shame that he almost had an eighth against Minnesota that would have led to a two-point conversion attempt to cap off a 29-point comeback and force overtime, but he had it in his hands an dropped it. If this was an Urban Meyer-coached team, he might never play again. But you know that Big Ben and Mike Tomlin have confidence in him – he has been the target on 25.4% of this team’s red zone pass attempts. That’s 14th in the league and kind of extraordinary for a rookie who was a second-round pick.
Dawson Know Props Picks for Week 15
Time: Sunday, December 19 @ 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +140 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Knox has been in there for at least 90% of the offensive snaps in each of Buffalo’s last four games. He averages 8.7 yards per target, and there is certainly nothing wrong with that. And he finds the end zone – he has scored eight touchdowns with just 40 receptions.
