NFL Week 5 Parlay Picks and Betting Lines

Much of New York, New Jersey and Fairfield County rejoiced last weekend as both the Jets and Giants won in overtime as underdogs.

It’s almost as if they need to get out of the month of September to experience the thrill of victory. So is this onward and upward for either of these teams?

Dolphins at Buccaneers Parlay Betting

Dolphins vs. Buccaneers Picks

Time: Sunday, October 10 at 1 PM ET

Totals Odds: Over 48 Points -110 / Under 48 Points -110

The Play: UNDER 48 POINTS (-110)

It’s interesting to see that while, out of all NFL quarterbacks with 20 or more attempts, Tua Tagovailoa has gotten the most yards after catch per completion out of his receivers (7.5), Jacoby Brissett has gotten the least (2.6). So that doesn’t bode too well for Miami’s chances to trade points here….. that is, IF it is going to be a game like that.

This one may be tighter defensively. This Dolphin defensive staff, and in particular head coach Brian Flores, has a pretty good handle on what could give Tom Brady a headache, as Bill Belichick did, so maybe they don’t let the G.O.A.T. run wild. Not having the safety valve of Rob Gronkowski available doesn’t help; Brady has found him for four TD passes.

Of course, the Bucs, with their defensive front, have the ability to make one-dimensional a Miami offense that does not have the requisite weapons to control the ball for all that long.

Jets at Falcons Parlay Betting

Jets vs. Falcons Picks

Time: Sunday, October 10 at 9:30 AM ET

Totals Odds: Over 46 Points -110 / Under 46 Points -110

The Play: UNDER 46 POINTS (-110)

If you are in the camp that believes Zach Wilson has really come of age after the overtime win over Tennessee last week, fine. But we’re a little more skeptical about it. Let’s see him do it again.

Wilson did a lot better than he had previously, but the Jets’ 355 yards and fifteen first downs were not eye-popping. What IS worth noting is the ferocity with which the defense got after Ryan Tannehill, sacking him seven times. Now they have a more stationary target in Matt Ryan, who did manage to bring the Falcons to a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter before folding vs. Washington.

We respect Atlanta’s weaponry more than we do New York’s, but we do not expect that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium represents anything resembling a “fast track” for these offenses. And we must acknowledge what Robert Saleh and his people have done with a stop unit that has lost a couple of key members (sixth in the NFL in yards allowed per drive).

Titans at Jaguars Parlay Betting

Titans vs. Jaguars Picks

Time: Sunday, October 10 at 1 PM ET

ATS Odds: Tennessee Titans -4.5 (-110) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars +4.5 (-110)

The Play: TITANS -4.5 (-110)

Okay, so it looks as if things aren’t “trending” Tennessee’s way. And just to be more specific, when you lose to the New York Jets and a rookie quarterback, it’s not trending your way. J-Ville was also decidedly more competitive in taking Cincinnati to the wire before losing.

But might these things serve as wake-up calls for the Titans? And is it a good thing that the Jags basically led all the way against the Bengals, then figured out a way to lose?

Remember a few things here – Ryan Tannehill has managed to flourish in the past with pass protection that was crumbling around him. His team did produce 430 yards to outgain the Jets by a wide margin last week. He has the most formidable weapon on the field in Derrick Henry, who had another day at the office last week with 157 yards.

And not only has Jacksonville now lost 19 consecutive games, Urban Meyer seems closer to being booted out the door, after taking a reprimand from his owner in the wake of, well, an ass-grabbing incident at his tavern. He admits he needs to get the respect of his team back. This situation is deteriorating.

Giants at Cowboys Parlay Betting

Giants vs. Cowboys Picks

Time: Sunday, October 10 at 4:25 PM ET

ATS Odds: Dallas Cowboys -7 (-110) vs. New York Giants +7 (-110)

The Play: N.Y. GIANTS +7 (-110)

The Cowboys look like one of the better teams in football right now. And we can’t disparage what they’re doing on offense, especially with the recent contributions from Ezekiel Elliott. But there have been enough occasions where you can throw the records out the window when the Giants come to town.

They seemed to have been reinforced with the return of Kenny Golladay, as well as Saquon Barkley now fully recovered from his knee injury. Daniel Jones brings the element of elusiveness that will challenge Dallas’ pass rush. And the Giants, after beating New Orleans in front of an emotional Superdome crowd last week, are 11-1 ATS in their last dozen outings as a road dog. I wonder how popular this week’s release of Jaylon Smith was in the Cowboys’ locker room.

Patriots at Texans Parlay Betting

Patriots vs. Texans Picks

Time: Sunday, October 10 at 1 PM ET

Totals Odds: Over 39.5 Points -110 / Under 39.5 Points -110

The Play: UNDER 39.5 POINTS (-110)

Sure, we could fade the Texans and their rookie quarterback, Davis Mills, who’s had 5.3 yards an attempt, seven sacks and four INT’s in the two games he’s started. And Mac Jones was perhaps a better story than Tom Brady last week, as he threw for 275 yards against the Bucs.

But if there’s an occasion when the Pats decide they can just go ahead and run the ball and run the clock, this might be it. Houston is permissive enough against ground games (4.5 ypc allowed) to let that happen. And we watch while Belichick confuses the hell out of the rookie QB.
