Well, it appears as if a player who is currently facing 22 civil lawsuits related to sexual assault and other nasty stuff could have a bearing on the trajectory of a number of NFL franchises, as early as this coming week.
DeShaun Watson is literally being paid to sit out right now by the Houston Texans, as he’s told them he wants to be traded. Some teams are willing to take the risk that he won’t get hit with criminal charges, and that he could be their quarterback of the future, regardless of the blowback they may get from a public relations standpoint.
Dolphins at Bills Parlay Betting
Time: Sunday, October 31 – 1 PM ET
Totals Odds: Over 48.5 Points (-110) / Under 48.5 Points (-110)
The Play: OVER 48.5 POINTS (-110)
The Dolphins have handled the situation with Tua Tagovailoa horribly for months now. In no way should there be a cloud hanging over his head. In case you’re not aware, Tua is the guy who’ll be traded if the Dolphins make a deal for Watson, and it’s gotten to the point where it is ridiculous for them to even deny that they are trying to make it happen.
And we’ve got news for you – the second-year QB from Alabama is hardly the root of Miami’s problems. He had 291 yards last week and has developed a rapport with at least a couple of his receivers – tight end Mike Gesicki and his college teammate, Jaylen Waddle.
He’s done his best with what he’s had. What he DOESN’T have is a dependable running game, or a defensive unit that has gotten the job done when it had to.
Now come the Bills, who have scored 90 points the last two times they have faced the Dolphins, and angry off the Tennessee loss, and a lot more cohesive and, we presume, harmonious. Miami head coach Brian Flores is said to have lost the locker room. Maybe. Rather than lay all these points, we’re partial toward the total, since Miami can get some garbage yards with Tua, and, let’s face it, Buffalo might be able to take care of the number all by itself.
Eagles at Lions Parlay Betting
Time: Sunday, October 31 – 1 PM ET
ATS Odds: Philadelphia Eagles -3.5 (-110) vs. Detroit Lions +3.5 (-110)
The Play: LIONS +3.5 (-110)
The Eagles are another team rumored to be interested in Watson, who would be a step up from Jalen Hurts. Inept play-calling has been the charge against first-year coach Nick Sirianni, who has assumed that responsibility, and he could be a one-and-done coach (hey, Ed Orgeron needs a job!).
Miles Sanders, a guy who has averaged better than five yards a carry over the past couple of seasons, has been severely under-utilized (only 63 carries) and now it looks like they can’t use him at all because of an ankle injury.
This may sound silly, but the Lions’ effort under Dan Campbell has been admirable. They can battle, as they did with the Rams last week, carrying a two-point lead on the road into the fourth quarter. And they came close to beating better teams.
Campbell’s “rah-rah” posture hasn’t gotten stale yet in Detroit, the way it did in Miami, when the Dolphins blasted out the first two opponents under his interim tenure, then reverted back to normal.
We proceed with caution, however, as Detroit hasn’t reached 20 points since the opener, when a desperate comeback brought them to within eight points of the Niners.
Rams at Texans Parlay Betting
Time: Sunday, October 31 – 1 PM ET
ATS Odds: Los Angeles Rams -14.5 (-105) vs. Houston Texans +14.5 (-115)
The Play: TEXANS +14.5 (-115)
For your information, DeShaun Watson will be inactive for this one, the way he has every game this season. Really, one of the objectives has been to keep him healthy so that it wouldn’t upset any trade scenarios. For the Texans’ sake, hopefully they won’t have to worry about that anymore by this time next week.
We are going to operate under the assumption that Tyrod Taylor, who is returning to practice this week, will start at QB for Houston, because head coach David Culley explained that when he’s healthy, he’ll play. Not that he is a huge game-changer. But when he’s in the game the Rams might not be able to do the same confusing things on defense they could do to Davis Mills.
Then again, we did take 20 points with the Texans last week, didn’t we?
Washington Football Team at Broncos Parlay Betting
Time: Sunday, October 31 – 4:25 PM ET
ATS Odds: Denver Broncos -3 (-105) vs.Washington Football Team +3 (-115)
The Play: WASHINGTON +3 (-115)
We have to point out that Denver has beaten only the Jets, Giants and Jaguars this season. And being handed a situation where they faced a Cleveland team with a backup QB, RB and offensive linemen, they could not get the job done – on either side of the football.
Yes, this is a rumored destination for Watson as well. But we doubt they would do something so radical, inasmuch as there will be ownership change next year and probably a house-cleaning up and down.
Meanwhile, Washington is rumored to be part of a Watson deal too, with Tua earmarked to land in the nation’s capital. Wouldn’t it be funny if he had to wind up sitting behind Ryan Fitzpatrick again?
Nah, it probably wouldn’t be too funny.
Take note that Denver is 2-8-1 ATS as a home favorite in the Vic Fangio “era,” which could be coming to an end soon.
