Our theme this week is simple:
Rookies.
Some of them have been tremendous revelations, while others have not been what fans (and maybe fantasy players) thought they’d amount to. But in many cases it’s not because it’s their fault. Sometimes the team hasn’t yet been able to utilize what they have to offer.
But there is a reason why the subject of four of our five bets here was drafted in the first round.
Ja’Marr Chase Props Picks for Week 9
Time: Sunday, November 7 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: -105 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Chase continues to be one of the greatest rookie stories, and things have worked out exactly as the Bengals hoped they would with him. And remember, at the draft there was that deliberation as to whether the team should select Penei Sewell with its pick.
Chase scored another touchdown last week, bringing his total to seven on the season. Joe Burrow has a QB rating of 124.1 when he throws to Chase, and that is phenomenal.
And last week the Bengals may have been a little flat on the defensive end as they came off the huge win over Baltimore and then lost to the Jets, with the Burrow-Chase connection accounting for only 32 yards. This week they’ll get a challenge with the Cleveland Browns, but we’ll continue to ride this horse.
Jaylen Waddle Props Picks for Week 9
Time: Sunday, November 7 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +110 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
I don’t know if this falls into the category of venturing a “guess,” but let’s put forward the notion that maybe Tua Tagovailoa is going to play without the burden of wondering if he might have to switch locker rooms the next week. Oh, and that it might have some positive effect on his play.
And if that is indeed the case, maybe we’ll see him exploit the abilities of his college teammate a little more. Waddle has so much potential to make big plays, and the idea that as the team leader with 48 receptions, that he has only three touchdown receptions is almost a crime.
The opportunities to score should be there; in five of the last seven games, the Texans have allowed more than 30 points.
Kyle Pitts Props Picks for Week 9
Time: Sunday, November 7 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +190 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
When it comes to things that are “criminal,” how could Matt Ryan have connected only twice with Kyle Pitts for only 13 yards last week against Carolina?
Here’s a guy who’s got all the ability in the world, and now must step up in the absence of Calvin Ridley, the #1 wide receiver who has left the team. He was not able to follow up on back-to-back 100-yard games.
A consideration here is that maybe the game plan of most teams will be to stop him first. Only one touchdown on the season. Is Pitts “due”?
Rashod Bateman Props Picks for Week 9
Time: Sunday, November 7 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +190 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
The Ravens’ mouths were watering when they were able to draft Bateman in the first round, because they envisioned him as someone who could help them stretch out the passing attack, making the ground game more effective (outside-in thinking).
But Bateman got injured and was not able to get going with the team in camp.
And now here they are, with Bateman having a few weeks, plus a bye week, to get himself indoctrinated into the offensive scheme. He had 80 yards on three catches against Cincinnati, giving a little tease on things to come.
Chuba Hubbard Props Picks for Week 9
Time: Sunday, November 7 – 1 PM ET
TD Scoring Odds: +150 to score “Anytime” Touchdown
Well, as of now the Panthers are “hopeful,” though not necessarily “confident,” that Christian McCaffrey will be able to get over his hamstring injury to the extent that he could play on Sunday.
If he doesn’t, or is limited in some way, it is worth noting that Hubbard, the rookie out of Oklahoma State who touched off a social justice controversy over one of Mike Gundy’s T-shirts last season, has 108 carries on the season, while all other non-QB options have 38. Somebody has to score a touchdown for Carolina…. don’t they?
