We didn’t report on any NHL last week because of the 4 Nations Face-Off Games (RIP USA). But, it gave our handicappers a much needed week of rest.
In the first week back from the event, they bet fairly conservatively, and didn’t make as much as they have in previous weeks.
See what happened in detail and learn more about where we’re betting next week..
Okay, MacGyver
We’ve talked a lot about Sports Hub Insider and Sean Kuchman (#1 and #2 last week), so I want to focus on David “Gonzo” MacGyver, a newcomer to the scene.
Last week MacGyver went 4-1 with his NHL wagers, an 80% win rate for a total of $300 in profit. However, he also pushed one wager, a total on the Rangers and Islanders game.
MacGyver seems to have a fairly diverse betting strategy, placing spreads, moneylines, and totals last week. And his luck is pretty good, aside from the total on the Canadiens and Senators game.
Surprisingly, this is the first time MacGyver has bet on hockey using the ScoresandStats.com platform. As far as these things go, he’s doing pretty well. Finishing number three in his first week betting on the NHL? We’ll definitely need to keep an eye on MacGyver’s picks.
Top NHL Handicappers Last Week
Last week we saw a few new folks on the leaderboard. David “Gonzo” MacGyver is a new face, as well as Randall Dickelman. Sean Kuchman is a regular around these parts, same with Sports Hub Insider and Computer Picks.
Overall, the top 5 NHL handicappers from last week went 39-20 for a collective 66.1% win rate. Kuchman really pulled down the average last week, losing 15 wagers overall. Together, they won $1,842 in profit, which is slightly less than the $1,900 our handicappers banked the week before the 4 Nations Face-Off Games.
Raymond Tries His Best
We’ve seen Ron Raymond on the leaderboard before, and this time he barely misses 5th place. He went 9-6 last week, and came out with $215 in profit. Looking at his stat sheet though, it’s tough. He lost $330 from flunked totals wagers, and managed to make most of his money from betting moneyline favorites.
Profit is profit, but it’s tough to stay motivated when you’re getting hammered by bad totals wagers.
Where Our Money’s at This Week
Tonight we’ll be watching the Jets play the Senators. Our handicappers seem to be on different sides of the fence for this one, with a few betting the Senators moneyline, and a few betting the Jets.
The Jets are favored, but in hockey, anything can happen. The Senators are fighting hard to jump into the top two wild card seats, so they might pull out a dub by pure force of will.
Tomorrow we’ll be watching the Sabres and the Hurricanes. The Sabres are down bad this season, but these past few games they’ve been putting up a good fight. They beat the Anaheim Ducks last night, and curb stomped the Rangers last weekend. The Hurricanes are certainly a bigger fish, but if anyone can do it, it’s the Sabres.
