With no fewer than 12 match-ups on the schedule, there is no shortage of exciting NHL players props to take advantage of this Tuesday, March 14th. Keep reading to discover my top five NHL picks for today’s games.
Sidney Crosby – Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (+135)
The Pittsburgh Penguins head into Tuesday’s showdown against the Montreal Canadiens on a two-game winning streak, having dispatched the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers. When you look at the bigger picture, the Penguins have won seven of their last nine outings.
Sidney Crosby notched eight shots on goal last time out, meaning the Pittsburgh center has registered 4+ SOG in seven of his previous nine appearances. Accordingly, I’m backing Crosby to chalk up over 3.5 shots on goal against the Canadiens, who find themselves rock bottom of the Atlantic Division following seven straight losses.
Jack Hughes – Over 0.5 Assists (-140)
Jack Hughes recorded three points when the New Jersey Devils claimed an impressive 3-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes last weekend, contributing one goal and two assists. Thanks to a run of seven wins in 10 games, New Jersey has cemented second place in the Metropolitan Division.
On Tuesday, the Devils host the Tampa Bay Lightning, who have dropped to third in the Atlantic Division after winning three of their previous 10 outings. With that in mind, I’m confident that Hughes will add to his ever-growing tally of assists at Prudential Center.
Roman Josi – Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (-170)
Not only have the Nashville Predators won each of their last two games, but they have also won seven of their previous 10. For that reason, Nashville will be confident of dispatching the Detroit Red Wings, who find themselves second from bottom in the Atlantic Division due to a run of negative results.
Only eight players have racked up more shots on goal than Roman Josi’s 262 this season. After notching seven SOG against the Arizona Coyotes, Josi added five to his tally against the Los Angeles Kings, so I expect him to record over 3.5 SOG against the struggling Red Wings on Tuesday.
David Pastrnak – Over 1.5 Points (+130)
It goes without saying that David Pastrnak is one of the best players in the NHL. After all, the Boston Bruins superstar occupies first place on the SOG leaderboard, while he also finds himself second on the goals leaderboard and fourth on the points leaderboard.
Pastrnak will be hopeful of picking up more points when the Bruins face the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, as the Blackhawks sit rock bottom of the Central Division following three consecutive defeats. Having bagged 2+ points in five of his previous 10 outings, Pastrnak shouldn’t struggle to notch over 1.5 points against lowly Chicago.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – Over 0.5 Points (-200)
When it comes to the Edmonton Oilers, Connor McDavid invariably grabs the headlines, with Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman often playing standout supporting roles. Still, we shouldn’t forget about the work that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins does for the team.
Only 12 players have racked up more points than Nugent-Hopkins this season. After registering four points against the Winnipeg Jets earlier this month, Nugent-Hopkins added two to his tally against the Toronto Maples Leafs last time out. In my eyes, backing him to record over 0.5 points against the Ottawa Senators is a no-brainer.
