Four games are on the slate today in the NHL playoffs. Carolina, Minnesota, Toronto, and Edmonton all have the opportunity to go up 3-1 in their respective series.
Of the four series, only Boston was able to pull off a win in Game 3 at home. Tampa Bay, St. Louis, and Los Angeles would all like to avoid facing elimination with the series moving back to the homes of their opponents.
There is some great betting value on all four games today. Here are the NHL playoffs picks for Sunday, May 8th 2022.
Carolina Hurricanes vs. Boston Bruins
Pick: HURRICANES +110
The Bruins got a win on the board with the series moving to Beantown for Game 3. The Hurricanes will adjust and take Game 4.
Carolina outshot Boston in two of the three periods and the Bruins scored a short-handed goal and two power-play goals in Game 3. Boston didn’t really dominate anything and, if not for a few Hurricanes mistakes, that game could have gone the other way.
The Hurricanes had won seven in a row over the Bruins before the loss in Game 3. During that streak, they outscored Boston 26-4. That’s the Carolina we’ll see today.
Minnesota Wild vs. St. Louis Blues
Wild vs. Blues Picks
Pick: OVER 6.5
Minnesota is on fire after two straight wins over the Blues. The Wild scored 11 goals in the process and St. Louis wasn’t even in Games 2 or 3 losing 6-2 and 5-1.
The Blues would like to salvage a win in Minnesota before taking the series back to St. Louis for Game 5. Both of these teams can score. The Blues finished third and the Wild fifth in goals per game. The total has gone Over in five of the Blues last seven games and in four of the last six at home in St. Louis.
The total has also gone Over in 12 of the last 14 games that the Wild have played on a Sunday.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Maple Leafs vs. Lightning Picks
Pick: LIGHTNING -125
Tampa Bay does not want to fall behind 3-1 with the series going back to Toronto for Game 5. Tonight’s game is crucial if the Lightning want to defend their Stanley Cup.
The Lightning haven’t really played that well in the series and Toronto goalie Jack Campbell is having a great series. Tampa Bay takes advantage of the home ice and playing on Sunday. The Lightning are 5-0 SU in their last five games played on a Sunday.
Edmonton Oilers vs. Los Angeles Kings
Pick: OVER 6.5
Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid simply cannot be stopped. Edmonton has put up 8 and 6 goals in the last two games of the series. Not surprisingly, those were both Oilers victories.
The Kings pulled an upset in Game 1 and in order to have any chance in Game 4 tonight they will need to keep up with the Oilers. Anze Kopitar and Adrian Kempe can help keep L.A. close.
Remember, Edmonton allowed three goals per game this season. The Oilers are also 5-1 SU in their last six games and 6-2 SU in their eight on the road. Their stars will find the net and push this total Over.
