The NHL has a full slate of games tonight and a handful of underdogs are primed to pull off upsets. Florida remains the top team in the East and Colorado is the best in the West.
The Avalanche could be one of the teams to go down tonight as they will be without star Nathan MacKinnon, who is expected to return to the lineup on Sunday. Without him, the Avs are still doing okay going 9-0-1 in their last ten games.
Will Colorado fall tonight? Here’s a look at the best NHL underdog picks for Thursday, February 10, 2022.
Penguins vs. Senators
Best Bet: SENATORS +175
The Penguins somehow managed a 4-2 win over Boston on Tuesday. The Pens had lost four straight before the All-Star break.
They also lost Evgeni Malkin who was put on IR due to COVID. This a game Pittsburgh would normally waltz into Ottawa and take, but the Senators have been playing well as of late.
The Senators have won three of their last four beating Edmonton, New Jersey, and Carolina. What’s interesting is that while Ottawa has a losing record they are 24-18 ATS this season. They are 12-9 ATS at home, which means they are keeping games close or pulling upsets. The Senators have only been favored in three games this season.
Ottawa has scored four goals in each of its last two games. They come through tonight with the upset.
Lightning vs. Avalanche
Best Bet: LIGHTNING +100
This could be a preview of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Avs had an 18-game home winning streak snapped just before the All-Star break. They lost to Arizona.
What hurts Colorado is that All-Star forward Nathan MacKinnon is out. He sustained a head injury and has been out since Jan. 26.
On the other side, Nikita Kucherov returns to the Tampa Bay lineup. That only makes the Lightning better and they have won seven of their last ten games.
Lightning G Andrei Vailevskiy has been one of the NHL’s best while Colorado G Darcy Keumper has been inconsistent. With MacKinnon out, this is the perfect time to pull the upset.
Blue Jackets vs. Sabres
Best Bet: SABRES +100
Columbus goes into Buffalo tonight in a matchup of two of the NHL’s weaker teams. Columbus has won three of its last four, including a 5-4 win over Washington on Tuesday night.
The Sabres have lost three of their last four. The only win was over Arizona, but Buffalo has had some success against Columbus. The Sabres have beaten the Blue Jackets in two of the last three meetings. Both of those wins – 2-1 and 4-3 were at home in Buffalo where they play tonight. Buffalo for the upset.
Hurricanes vs. Bruins
Best Bet: BRUINS +125
Carolina has lost two straight, something that doesn’t happen often for the Hurricanes. In each previous occasion when the Hurricanes lost two in a row this season, they ended up losing three straight. Boston is just 5-4-1 in its last ten games and lost to an ailing Pittsburgh team on Tuesday. The Bruins and Hurricanes have played twice this season. Carolina won both games.
Boston will be without Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand (who is suspended for six games), but look for the Bruins to rally at home with a shorthanded lineup and pull the unthinkable upset.
